Starting XI:
Lammens
Dalot – Maguire – Yoro
B. Fernandes – Cunha
Amad
Casemiro
Mbeumo
Shaw
Mainoo

This looks like a flexible system possibly a 3-4-2-1 or a hybrid back three setup.

TACTICAL BREAKDOWN.

Defensive Structure: With Maguire central and Yoro, Dalot alongside him this likely forms a back three in possession. Maguire deep distributor, aerial dominance. Yoro progressive defender steps into midfield. Dalot can tuck in or overlap depending on shape. Luke Shaw could operate as a left wing back. If Dalot pushes higher, it becomes asymmetrical.

WEAKNESS: Pace in transition if opponents counter quickly, Maguire can be exposed in space.

MIDFIELD ENGINE: This is where the game is decided. Casemiro and Mainoo, Casemiro sits deep, screens defence, Mainoo carries the ball and progresses play. If Mainoo controls tempo, this team will dominate possession but if pressed aggressively?
Casemiro’s mobility could be tested.

ATTACKING THREAT: Bruno Fernandes creative freedom, final ball specialist. Cunha can drift wide or drop between lines, Amad and Mbeumo direct runners, pace and 1v1 threat.

This front unit suggests quick transitions, wide overloads, crosses and cutbacks. Expect a lot of diagonal runs and switches of play.

HERE IS HOW THE GAME COULD LIKELY PLAY OUT.

First 20 Minutes Manchester United will try to control possession and test the opponent’s press. Bruno will drop deep to dictate. Wing backs push high if they score early, they’ll dominate. The biggest test will be transitions.

If the opponent presses hard and counters quickly the back three will be stretched. Set pieces will be dangerous Maguire and Casemiro aerially strong.

FINAL PHASE: If leading they’ll slow tempo, if chasing they’ll commit Shaw and Dalot higher turning it into almost a 3-2-5 attacking shape.

This lineup has creativity, physical presence and wide threat but has transition vulnerability and defensive pace issues.

KEY DECIDER:

Mainoo’s control and Casemiro’s positioning if they dominate midfield they win. If they lose midfield battles, it becomes chaotic.

CAN MANCHESTER UNITED GET 3 POINTS FROM THIS?

ARSENAL DIDN’T JUST BEAT SPURS THEY OVERPOWERED THEM.

From the first whistle Arsenal looked sharper, hungrier and tactically clearer. Tottenham started bright for a few minutes but once Arsenal settled, the difference in structure and intensity became obvious.

WHAT STOOD OUT?

1. Midfield Control: Arsenal dominated the middle of the park. They didn’t allow Spurs to build rhythm. Every time Tottenham tried to progress the ball Arsenal pressed aggressively and forced mistakes. It wasn’t chaotic pressing, it was coordinated pressing. That’s the difference.

2. Wide Areas Destroyed Tottenham: Spurs’ full backs were exposed all game. Arsenal attacked the flanks relentlessly with quick switches of play, overloads in wide areas and wingers isolating defenders. Tottenham couldn’t cope with the speed and movement. Once the second goal went in Spurs’ defensive shape completely collapsed.

3. Mentality Gap: At 2–1 Spurs had a chance to respond instead they looked nervous. Their passes became rushed, the press became disorganized and leaders went quiet. And elite teams punish weakness. The third goal killed the contest and the fourth goal embarrassed them.

4. Tottenham’s Tactical Problem: Spurs tried to play out from the back under heavy pressure but without the structure to support it. When you insist on playing through a press without proper angles and midfield support you invite danger. And Arsenal accepted that invitation all afternoon.

Key Difference: Efficiency. Arsenal were clinical, they didn’t need 25 shots. They needed moments and they executed them.

Spurs on the other hand had sloppy transitions, poor defensive communication, no control when under pressure. That’s why it ended 4–1.

THE BIG QUESTION IS THIS. IS THIS A ONE OFF DERBY DOMINANCE? Or is this proof that Arsenal are now mentally and tactically ahead of Tottenham?

Because today it didn’t look like a rivalry rather it looked like levels.

Enzo Maresca's Full Pre-Bayern Munich Press Conference:

Enzo Maresca: "First of all we are very happy to be in this competition [UCL]. One year ago we were playing Conference League play off so we are happy to be here."

Enzo Maresca: "I like to go game by game. You cannot think about the final or semi final if you can't win games in the group stage. Tomorrow is against a fantastic team, they're one of four or five favourites for the competition."

Enzo Maresca: "Knowing that every game is different, every competition is different. Bayern are in this moment one of the favourites [for the UCL] but we will try to do our best."

Enzo Maresca: "We try every game, even against Brentford, with our best 11. Game by game you manage different problems. Last game Cole wasn't fit to play 90 minutes, players like Estevao were out. Tomorrow we will try to put our best 11."

Enzo Maresca: "We will see tomorrow [if Cole Palmer can start]."

Enzo Maresca: "I said before every game is different. For the game against PSG [in the Club World Cup final], the first 11, the second half players, the plan worked well. Tomorrow is a different game."

Enzo Maresca: "I said the other day, I'm grateful, thankful to Nico [Nicolas Jackson] because if we achieved what we achieved last year, it's because of all the players including Nicolas. I text him after he left the club telling him thanks for last season, wishing him all the best. He's a good guy, was working well"

Enzo Maresca: "[Nicolas Jackson left because] we bought two striker Liam Delap and Joao Pedro. I think two is enough."

Enzo Maresca: "Tomorrow Robert [Sanchez] will start. Filip [Jorgensen] will play games in the Premier League, UCL, FA Cup, Carabao. We have so many games that Robert cannot play all of them."

Enzo Maresca: "For me it's normal [to play against Nicolas Jackson tomorrow]. I'm from Italy, I played many years in Spain. When you are on loan you can play."

Enzo Maresca: "It's a long season, many games. You have to [rotate]. It's not something you can plan. It's game by game. You can plan something and then have any injuries. We are going to try to rotate players knowing the UCL is a bit different from last season's competition."

Enzo Maresca: "I think Bayern Munich is a team that already showed last year that they are very close and can compete in this competition. I see them together with three or four clubs as the favourites. That's my personal opinion."

Enzo Maresca: "Me with Nico [Nicolas Jackson]? Personally, I didn't have any kind of problem with Nico and I don't. He's a good guy, good professional who worked well with us."

Enzo Maresca: "There can be a small advantage [with Nicolas Jackson being in the Bayern Munich team after playing at Chelsea], he [Vincent Kompany] can ask Nico how we work and play. He was with us for an entire season so knows how we approach games but at the end we will see."
