Smashboks are back in action this week as we take on Spen Valley Vixens B in another exciting West Yorkshire Rounders League Division 1 fixture!

After a closely fought draw in our last match, the team is ready to get back out on the pitch for another competitive evening of rounders.

💜⚾ MATCH RESULT | DIVISION 1 ⚾💜

What a match!

Smashboks and Silsden Smashers served up a fantastic game of rounders, with both teams battling from the first ball right through to the final innings. After a narrow 3.5–2.5 lead for Smashboks at half time, Silsden fought back strongly to earn a well-deserved 6–6 draw.

It was an incredible contest to watch, with both teams showcasing fantastic skills in both batting and fielding. The momentum swung throughout the game, keeping players and spectators on the edge of their seats until the very end.

👏 Player of the Match & Manager’s Player: Lucy (Smashboks) ⭐

Lucy put in an outstanding all-round performance, earning both awards on the night. Three superb catches in the second innings helped keep Smashboks in the game, while her two rounders with the bat made a huge contribution to the final score.

A big thank you to our umpires, Claire Prendergast and Georgia Cockroft, for officiating.

A draw was a fair result after two teams gave absolutely everything on the pitch. Well played to everyone involved and thank you to all the supporters who came along to cheer us on! 💜

Division 1 | Smashboks vs Horsforth Hawks Black

Another competitive Division 1 fixture saw Smashboks take on Horsforth Hawks Black in a well-fought game throughout.

At the halfway stage, Hawks held a narrow advantage, leading 10.5–7 after a strong first innings from both teams.

Despite a determined second-half performance from Smashboks, Horsforth Hawks Black maintained their lead to secure the win.

Player of the Match was awarded to Sophie from Hawks for some excellent fielding and strong scoring. Congratulations, Sophie! 👏

Smashboks Manager’s Player went to Alex for a fantastic performance and contribution throughout the game. Well deserved! ⭐

A big thank you to Helen Clarkson for umpiring alongside Georgia Cockroft. It was a great game played in good spirits and a pleasure to be part of.

Match Report: Smashboks vs Spen Valley Vixens A

Smashboks faced Spen Valley Vixens A on a much warmer evening than the previous week, although dark clouds loomed overhead throughout the game, threatening to interrupt what turned out to be a fantastic contest.

Both teams started strongly, with some excellent batting, sharp fielding and disciplined bowling making it a very even first half. At half time the scores were level at 2.5 rounders each, setting up an exciting second innings with everything still to play for.

The second half was played at a high intensity, with neither side able to pull away. Smashboks battled brilliantly and kept themselves in contention right until the very end, but Spen Valley Vixens A just edged the game in the closing moments.

With the match coming down to the final few balls and the last two batters, it could not have been any closer. The final score finished 9 rounders to Spen Valley Vixens A and 7.5 to Smashboks.

One of the standout moments of the evening came from Alexandra, who produced a huge hit that sent the ball onto the clubhouse roof — a moment that certainly got everyone talking!

A brilliant game played in great spirit by two excellent teams, and despite the result, Smashboks can be proud of a superb team performance. x

Match Report: Hanging Heaton Jets vs Smashboks

On a lovely sunny evening, despite the strong winds and bitterly cold conditions, the Smashboks travelled to face the Hanging Heaton Jets in what turned out to be a thrilling and closely contested match.

Smashboks captain Hannah lost the toss, with Hanging Heaton choosing to field first. Both teams started brightly, producing some excellent batting, sharp fielding and disciplined bowling throughout the opening innings.

At half time, the score stood at 3.5 rounders to 3 in favour of Hanging Heaton, leaving everything to play for in the second innings.

The second half continued at a high tempo, with both sides battling hard in windy conditions. Smashboks showed great determination and teamwork to stay in the game, while Hanging Heaton continued to apply pressure with some strong fielding performances.

In the end, neither side could be separated, with the match finishing in an exciting 7–7 draw — a fair reflection of an evenly matched contest.

A standout performer for Smashboks was Hannah, whose superb bowling performance caused constant problems for the opposition throughout the game. Her contribution was recognised by the umpires, who deservedly awarded her the Player of the Match award.

Normally, as Smashboks captain, Hannah chooses the team’s Player of the Match herself. However, on this occasion the decision was unanimously overruled by her teammates, who insisted the award should go to Hannah in recognition of her excellent bowling display and the important rounders she scored during the match.

A fantastic team effort from both sides and an entertaining game played in great spirit.

💜⚾️ A fantastic day at the West Yorkshire Player Development Day! 🙌

We’re incredibly proud to share that two of our amazing players were selected to receive tickets to the Rounders England Talent Pathway. This is a huge achievement and a testament to their hard work, dedication, and passion for the game.

Opportunities like this don’t come around often, and to see our players recognised at this level is something truly special. They represented the club brilliantly and showed exactly what can be achieved with commitment and a positive attitude.

Well done to both players – this is just the beginning of an exciting journey! 💫💜⚾️
