When I used to teach group exercise classes at PureGym Leeds Hunslet, Rebecca was always one of the regulars.

She showed up consistently, worked incredibly hard, and pushed herself every session with very little coaching needed.

We’d often chat after classes or when I saw her training in the gym. Like many people relying solely on group exercise, she was putting in plenty of effort but seeing limited results.

That’s when we decided to work together on a more structured approach, with a strong focus on progressive strength training.

The result? Increased muscle mass, improved strength, and some seriously impressive glute development.

A great reminder that hard work is important, but having the right plan can make all the difference.

Client Spotlight: Marcus 💪

Marcus and I worked together opening PureGym Leeds Bramley many years ago, and like many people, he knew what to do, but with the demands of life and work piling up, he needed accountability, structure, and support to get back on track.

At the time, Marcus was heavily involved in opening a brand-new facility, stepping into new responsibilities, and navigating the pressures of a demanding pre-sale period. Stress was high, time was limited, and consistency was becoming increasingly difficult.

So we took a different approach.

We implemented a more aggressive short-term phase to create momentum, establish habits, and drive results quickly. Once that foundation was built, we transitioned into a more sustainable training and nutrition strategy that could be maintained alongside his busy lifestyle.

As a former high-level rugby player, Marcus is no stranger to discipline, high standards, and hard work. He embraced the process, trusted the plan, and put in the effort required to get results.

The lesson?

You don’t need a perfect schedule.
You don’t need endless motivation.
You need the right plan for your circumstances and someone to keep you accountable when life gets busy.

I’m Not the Same Person I Was at 19…

At 19 years old, I was a strong, athletic rugby player and martial artist.

Training hard, competing regularly, and sitting around 16 stone of pure athleticism.

Then my body changed overnight.

I developed a rare oesophageal condition called Achalasia.

A condition with no cure and no reversal.

Over time I lost almost 10 stone in bodyweight and eventually required surgery just to be able to eat and function.

As a self-employed coach, there was no safety net.

No sick pay.
No time off.
No option but to keep moving forward.

Slowly, I rebuilt.

I regained the majority of my physique and continued coaching, despite ongoing struggles with eating and managing my condition.

Then, 14 years later, another challenge arrived.

Crohn’s Disease.

Once again, I find myself in a fight I never asked for.

A fight against fatigue, pain, inflammation, uncertainty, and a body that doesn’t always cooperate.

But I refuse to give in.

I refuse to let my circumstances define me.

My goal remains the same:

To build a strong, healthy body and the best life possible with the cards I’ve been dealt.

If you’re facing challenges right now—whether that’s your health, your weight, your confidence, your mindset, or something else entirely—keep going.

Progress isn’t always linear.

Sometimes success is simply refusing to quit.

“I used to be scared of stepping out of my comfort zone.”

That’s where this journey started.

Like many people, she was already going to the gym. But training and training with purpose are two very different things.

Over time she built confidence, learned how to fuel her body properly, developed strength, added muscle, and became completely comfortable walking into the gym and doing it alone.

It’s great to see Karen has carried on her journey in the world of Hyrox and is incredibly active! I just love to see it 😊

The result wasn’t just a physical transformation.

✅ More confidence
✅ More strength
✅ Better understanding of nutrition
✅ Freedom from second-guessing herself
✅ A healthier relationship with training

The goal was never perfection.

The goal was education, consistency and creating habits that would last long after coaching finished.

And that’s exactly what happened.

CLIENT SPOTLIGHT: SARAH 💪

When Sarah first started coaching, her goal wasn’t just to lose body fat.

She wanted to feel stronger.
She wanted more confidence.

Over time, Sarah built muscle, improved her strength, developed confidence in the gym, and completely transformed her physique through consistent training, nutrition, and patience.

But what stands out most isn’t the physical transformation.

It’s the confidence she gained along the way.

Learning to use weights.
Trusting the process.
And proving to herself what she was capable of.

Luke trusted the process, showed up, followed the plan, and the results speak for themselves:

📉 Chest: 111cm → 110cm (-1cm)
📉 Waist: 95cm → 85cm (-10cm)
📉 Stomach: 97cm → 86.5cm (-10.5cm)
📉 Hips: 94cm → 88cm (-6cm)
📉 Thigh: 64.5cm → 60.5cm (-4cm)
📈 Bicep: 40.5cm → 41cm (+0.5cm)

Total measurement loss: 31.5cm 🔥

⚖️ Weight loss: 8.3kg

The scales moved.
The tape measure moved.
Body composition improved.

This is what happens when you stop searching for shortcuts and start focusing on the fundamentals that actually work.

The goal was never to lose weight as quickly as possible.

The goal was to build a stronger, leaner physique whilst creating habits that can be maintained long after the diet phase is over.
