Tough afternoon yesterday.
We seemed to match Newsam in the first-half. However, an early penalty at the start of the second half followed by two more shortly after was a bit too much for us.

We managed to get one back from a well taken finish from Will Parker, but couldn’t seem to get any more.

Match Report

Fulltime - Leeds Irons 3 - 8 Wakefield Owls

A well-earned victory on the road for Wakefield Owls in an entertaining, goal-filled encounter.

The Owls started brightly, looking sharp in possession and creating early chances in the opposition half, though they were initially unable to find the breakthrough. That changed after 15 minutes when debutant Kelvin was brought down in the Leeds Irons box. Ethan Felkin stepped up and calmly slotted the penalty into the bottom corner to give the Owls a 1–0 lead.

The advantage didn’t last long, as some clever footwork from the Irons captain brought the hosts level. Momentum began to shift, with the Irons growing into the game and testing the Owls defence — including a powerful free kick that rattled the crossbar.

Despite that pressure, the Owls regained the lead somewhat against the run of play, with Kelvin marking his debut in style by finishing well to make it 2–1. However, set pieces continued to cause problems, and another well-taken free kick saw the Irons equalise again, sending the sides into the break at 2–2.

The second half didn’t start as planned for the Owls, as a poorly defended corner allowed the Irons to take the lead for the first time at 3–2. To their credit, the Owls responded strongly. Ethan Felkin grabbed his second of the game with a well-placed header from a quality free kick delivered by another debutant, Sam.

With momentum swinging back in their favour, the Owls began to look increasingly dangerous. After a series of substitutions, they pushed on and Ethan Felkin completed his hat-trick to restore the lead at 4–3.

From there, the Owls took control. Substitute Jack Smith was perfectly positioned to convert from a corner and extend the lead to 5–3. Centre-half Sam Sharman then added another with a powerful header, making it 6–3.

Dan Wilson capped off the performance with a well-taken brace, sealing an emphatic 8–3 victory for the Owls.

A strong attacking display from the Owls, who ended up taking enough of their chances to ensure a comfortable victory in the end.
