Quick question for Dorset Swim families! 🗳️

When your child first started lessons, what were they most nervous about?

💧 Putting their face in the water
🌊 Swimming without a float
👋 Being away from you poolside
🤷 Nothing - they loved it from day one!

It’s amazing how far they come and how quickly they progress! 😊 Drop your answer in the comments!

We promised more details about awards term so here they are! 🏅
STA (Swimming Teachers’ Association) is one of the UK’s leading awarding bodies for swimming, and Dorset Swim is proud to be an STA school.
Our awards are tailored to each child’s level and cover a range of skills including:

🏊 Distance swimming
💧 Stroke technique and form
🌊 Water safety awareness
⭐ Overall confidence and ability in the water

Awards aren’t a test to be stressed about. They’re a celebration of progress. Your child has been building towards these skills all year without even realising it!

Every swimmer who earns an award will receive a certificate and/or badge. We’ll be sharing more as we get closer. Watch this space! 👀

It’s awards term at Dorset Swim and we’d love to know… 👇

What’s the one swimming milestone you’re most hoping to see from your little swimmer this term?

Whether it’s swimming a full length for the first time, cracking a tricky stroke, or simply feeling more confident in the water. Every goal matters and every step forward is worth celebrating.

Tell us in the comments! 🏅

We’re back! 🏊‍♀️

We hope you all had a wonderful half term break. We’ve missed you all poolside!

This term is a special one: It’s our awards term. That means that alongside their usual lessons, swimmers will be working towards their STA swimming awards - a brilliant milestone for every level.

We’ve got a fantastic few weeks ahead and we can’t wait to get started. See you in the pool! 🧡

That’s a wrap on another brilliant term at Dorset Swim! 🎉

A huge well done to every single one of our swimmers. The progress this term has been wonderful to watch. Whether it was a first time putting their face in the water, nailing a new stroke, or building confidence in a skill they’d been working on. Every step forward counts and we couldn’t be prouder of them all.

Thank you as always to our wonderful families for your support and enthusiasm poolside. It really does make a difference.

A reminder that next term is our awards term, so it’s a great one to be part of! You should all have received your bookings for the next term.
We hope everyone has a lovely half term break and we look forward to seeing you all back in the pool very soon. 🏊‍♀️

Did you know breaststroke is technically the hardest stroke to learn? That's why we sneak in froggy arms and legs right from the start - long before swimmers even know they're learning it! 🐸 The hard work is already paying off. Well done to our brilliant swimmers! 🏊

Meet Ellie - the heart of our beginners’ classes at Dorset Swim! 🌟

Ellie has been swimming since she was five years old, so the water has always been a big part of her life. At 14 she took her first steps into teaching as an Aquatic Helper, and by 16 she had gained her Level 2 Award qualification, an impressive achievement for someone so young.

She now specialises in teaching our youngest and newest swimmers, and if you’ve ever watched her work you’ll know exactly why the children love her. Patient, encouraging and genuinely warm, she has a real gift for making children feel safe, supported and excited to get in the water.

Away from the pool, Ellie is very much a Dorset girl at heart. She helps run the family farm, looks after the ponies and has found a love for walking through her Duke of Edinburgh adventures. She hopes one day to build a career working with children and animals, and honestly, we can’t think of a better fit. 🐄

We feel very lucky to have her on the Dorset Swim team.

With warmer weather on the way and half term just around the corner, water safety is on our minds at Dorset Swim. 🌊☀️

Whether it’s the beach, a river, a lido or a paddling pool, here are a few reminders worth sharing with your children:

👀 Always swim where a lifeguard is present if possible
🚫 Never swim alone. Always have an adult nearby
🌊 Respect the water, even confident swimmers can get into difficulty in open water
💟 If someone is in trouble, don’t jump in, throw something that floats and call for help
📱 Teach children to shout for help and call 999

Swimming lessons build brilliant foundations but open water is a very different environment. Keeping these conversations going at home really does make a difference.

Have a wonderful half term, Dorset Swim families! 🧡
