After a number of years of voluntary service, the current Directors of Staffin Community Hall Association will be stepping down on 30 September 2026.

The Directors would like to thank all the volunteers, sub-committee members and supporters who have helped bring the Hall to a position of greater stability, stronger governance and exciting opportunities for the future.

We believe we have achieved what we set out to do: putting the Hall on a firm foundation for the future. Now it's time for new people, new ideas and new energy to take the Hall and Shop into their next chapter.

⚠️ The Hall must have at least three Directors. If new Directors do not come forward, an EGM will be held on 30 September to appoint a new Board. Without a Board, the future of both the Hall and, potentially, the Shop could be affected. Further, the ability for the Hungry Gull to trade in the building could also be affected.

Skye and Lochalsh Council for Voluntary Organisations (SLCVO) is supporting the transition process, and Jo-Anne Ford is happy to have an informal chat with anyone interested in finding out more about becoming a Director.

Please consider getting involved and helping secure the future of these important community assets.

The Triathlon & 10K are taking place in Staffin tomorrow, so there’ll be no parking at the shop between 8am & 2pm.

But don’t worry… we’re open as usual! 🛒❤️

So leave the car behind, grab your walking shoes and come see us! 🚶‍♀️😉

🌊 STAFFIN TRIATHLON – SWIM CONDITIONS 🏊‍♀️

A quick heads-up for Saturday’s swim.

🌬️ Forecast: NNE wind around 10mph, gusting to 16mph
🌊 Tide: Ebbing/falling throughout the swim
⏰ High water: ~8.25am | Low water: ~2.40pm

The forecast is currently looking reasonably favourable, but expect some movement and small waves/chop rather than flat water. You may experience waves from the front or side and some sideways drift, particularly once you're away from the shore.

🏊‍♂️ A few tips

• Take it steady at the start and settle into your breathing.
• Sight regularly to avoid drifting off course.
• Don't worry if the water feels different — some chop is normal in open water.
• Know your limits. If you're uncomfortable or struggling, signal to the water-safety team. We’ll have a lead boat, safety boats and kayakers on the course.

⚠️ Conditions can change. The water-safety team will assess the actual conditions on Saturday morning. Swimmer safety comes first, and the course may be changed if necessary.

🚧 STAFFIN TRIATHLON & 10K – ROAD CLOSURE & PARKING INFORMATION 🚧

A reminder to all residents and visitors to Staffin that the An Corran Road to Staffin Slipway will be closed to vehicles this Saturday, 29 August, between 10am and 1pm for the Staffin Triathlon & 10K.

🚗 No cars will be permitted to access the closed section during this time, with the exception of emergency and authorised event vehicles.

🚧 Parking restrictions

To help keep competitors and spectators safe, parking will be restricted within 150 metres north and south of The Hungry Gull / Staffin Stores.

🚫 There will be strictly NO PARKING at the Free Church Continuum. This area is reserved for customers of The Hungry Gull and must remain available to them.

🅿️ Competitor parking

Competitors should use the following designated parking areas:

Columba 1400
Staffin Primary School – Garros Road

Please follow the signage and directions from marshals and respect these parking restrictions. They are essential to keeping the event safe and allowing local businesses to continue operating during the race.

🚙 Residents and visitors should also be aware that travel by car through Staffin village may be disrupted during the event, particularly between 10am and 1pm. Please allow extra time for your journey and follow the instructions of our marshals.

We know that road closures and parking restrictions can be inconvenient, and we really do appreciate your patience and understanding while the race is taking place.

A huge thank you to all the residents and businesses of Staffin for supporting the event and bearing with us on Saturday. Your patience allows us to stage the Staffin Triathlon & 10K and showcase this wonderful part of Skye to visitors from near and far. 💙
