MATCH REPORT
Guisborough Town Ladies vs Wolviston Ladies
For our third pre‑season friendly we travelled up to face Durham Premier side Wolviston, looking to build further on our fitness and sharpness, as well as trying out a new 4‑3‑3 shape. We started brightly and played some excellent football from the first whistle, creating a couple of half chances that we couldn’t quite convert. Wolviston threatened on the counter with real pace, but we continued to push and forced their keeper into action — including a superb save tipping a free‑kick expertly onto the post. For the first 30 minutes we produced some of our best football since Ballsy took charge. As often happens in football, not taking chances when on top can come back to hurt you. Wolviston grew into the game and unfortunately we picked up two injuries in quick succession, one of which looked pretty serious — huge thanks to the Wolviston physio for his help. Their pressure eventually told, and a quick turnover followed by a well‑timed through ball made it 1–0 after 38 minutes. Right on half‑time things got a little heated, with a player from each side sent off, but credit to the referee for allowing both teams to replace them with subs keeping the game 11 vs 11.
Wolviston came out sharp in the second half and took control. The injuries continued to mount, 5 in total, and we were forced to play most of the half with 9 players. With the numerical advantage, quality and fitness of Wolviston, they added five more goals to make the final score 6–0.
Despite everything, the effort, resilience and togetherness shown by the ladies was outstanding. They refused to give up, kept working for each other, and showed real character in difficult circumstances. It was still a valuable run‑out with excellent fitness gained — we just hope the injuries aren’t too serious.
Thank you to Wolviston for hosting us, and we wish you the very best for the upcoming season.
