Dunoon 9 - 2 balljafray . Tough shift in the first nothing falling for us in the first half and they scored against the run off play . Dunoon started better in the second half getting our passing game flowing dominating the midfield, special mentions to Charlie who was outstanding in goals and Abigail who nearly scored , but MOM goes to Joseph won everything in defence !!!

DYFL 2009/10s League Update

On Saturday 19th February 2022 the 2009/10s squad headed to Douglas Academy in Milngavie to play their last game of the season in the EDSSA league. A win would mean a historic victory in their first competitive league playing at u13s level.

The league had commenced last summer and would test Dunoon’s mettle up against teams from central Scotland. Covid had played its part providing various call offs through the season that had extended the end date into 2022.

The team had also entered the Inspire cup in August and played and won 2 rounds of the cup before having to withdraw due to several injuries to key players.

Travelling week in week out has also been a burden to players and parents alike with early starts on cold mornings providing the grounding to Scottish football.

The team is an amalgamation of players from 2009/2010/2011 age groups. The 2010/11 players play up to the older 2009 age group which shows how good they are. The players have been fantastic from the start of the season working hard and setting their own standards high, which has paid off tremendously during the games. Special mention to Layla Finnegan and Abigail Ledsom who have worked hard to become integral players in the squad. Layla’s hard work has paid off with her signing to Glasgow City u13s squad.

On a morning that had potentially meant another call off due to snow, the sun shone from the sky and made the pitch glisten. With parents/guardians, brothers, sisters and assorted family members all coming along to cheer on the team the travelling support waited in anticipation for the kick-off.

The coaches made their final team talk and it was then down to the players to put all their hard work into action.

A slow start from the DYFL team meant supporters waiting for the first goal and kicking every ball in anticipation. A high press from the Dunoon team eventually led to several corners and a headed goal by Duncan Weir gave the crowd their first celebration of the match.

Dunoon kept the tempo high and gave little room for the opposing team to get out of their own half. Reese MacDonald scored another 2 goals with Jack Campbell and Ashwin Jeyarajah sealing a 5 nil win to bring the league home to Dunoon.

The team celebrated as the final whistle went and a chorus of Championees was heard round the park. The parents formed a guard of honour to lead the team out of the ground.

The celebrations continued in the evening at The Lorne where Jill and Lyndsey English put on a spread for the players and parents.

Medals and a cup presentation were made and a few words from head coach Duncan Weir. “The squad have worked so hard to show that Dunoon is on the footballing map. We look forward to progressing to 11 aside and will continue to work hard with you in training to ensure we give you the best platform to continue your footballing journey”
