Young Dons are a well organised football facility that provides a fun and safe place for boys and girls aged 4-16 years to enjoy their passion and learn new skills.

📍 Away vs St Helens

A massive well done to the lads who played the game.

It was always going to be a tough match against a team in a higher division and then with the referees decisions it made it even more difficult.

Despite this they all gave 100% and stuck together until the end and they can hold their heads high.

Thank you to the parents for driving to the game and also thank you to Cruz for running the line!

Player of the match today went to Clayton for his continued hard work and battling throughout the game! 🏅👏🏻

⚽️ UNDER 13’s ⚽️

📍 Home vs Horncastle Town

A good home win for our under 13s against Horncastle Town.

Dons were dominant from the start and it didn’t take long for goals to come.

Riley McGovern Smith powering an effort past the goalkeeper before the speedy Harley Bond rounded the keeper for a second. It wasn’t long for another as the tricky Olly Senior got in on the act and then Josh Twelves added another with a delightful chipped effort passed the keeper for a commanding lead before halftime.

Second half Dons came out and started to pass the ball with more purpose and it didn’t take long before they started to carve Horncastle apart allowing the floodgates to open. Olly Senior and Riley McGovern Smith getting Hat tricks, Harley Bond and Josh Twelves getting another each along with Ethan Flisher and Tyler Burwell both scoring with delightful strikes.

A special mention must go to Horncastle’s goalkeeper as despite the score line he made some wonderful saves and decision making throughout. 🌟

Dons player of the match went to Ethan Flisher who was very calm in possession and showed real neat touches throughout the game. 👏🏻🏅

⚽️ UNDER 15’s ⚽️

📍 Away vs Fishtoft

It was a treat to play today’s game in bright sunshine, something we haven’t done for a while so was welcomed by all.

Dons started well with some good passages of play.

Captain Harry took an elbow to the nose so unfortunately the team went down to ten players for a short period of time. This didn’t stop him coming back though! 💪

The team created some early chances but unfortunately we’re unable to convert them into goals.

Dons went into to half time just two goals behind

Second half was a struggle with no substitutes the lads started to show signs of fatigue and lack of concentration which unfortunately meant a number of goals being conceded.

Player of the match went to Billy for 100% commitment throughout the game. Well done Billy! 👏🏻🏅

📍 Home vs Welton Bombers

A home draw against Welton Bombers for our under 13s.

Dons started the game slow due to some positional changes with players absent but soon started to find a rhythm.

After some Dons possession a lovely cross by Noah Ford was controlled and finished superbly by Olly Senior to give Dons a half time lead.

Second half Dons controlled play and the lively Harley Bond found space and smashed an effort off the left post and in from 18 yards with his weaker foot.

Dons seemed to be in cruise control before a dubious penalty was awarded to Welton which was dispatched. Dons were starting to flag with 10 minutes left due to a lack of numbers and Welton found a leveller.

Player of the match went to Josh Twelves who controlled the tempo from midfield showed superb foot work all game and put a real shift in for his team. 👏🏻🏅

📍 Away vs Greenbank Athletico

An away loss at Greenbank Athletico in difficult playing conditions.

Dons starting the game well and controlling the play before Greenbank took the lead from a Dons error leaving the Greenbank forward the easy task of rolling into an empty net.

Dons tempo increased after the goal and controlled possession for large parts of the game but just couldn’t create anything in the final third leaving Greenbank with a narrow victory.

Player of the match went to Olly Senior for his hard work and effort to try and create something for his team. 👏🏻🏅

📍 Home vs Ruskington Lions

A very close match with lots of postive football, nice linking up and great passing of the ball.

We dominated large parts of the game and without some fantastic saves from the ruskington keeper the result could have been different.

Goals today were scored by Jack who was also player of the match. 🏅👏🏻

📍 Home vs North Lindum Hawks

A fantastic home win for our under 13s against league leaders North Lindum Hawks.

Dons were dominant from the first minute passing the ball around nicely and when out of possession winning the ball back with speed.

Dons dominance eventually paid off from a lovely Olly Senior corner that was powerfully headed home by captain Connor Whyte. ⚽️
Dons pressure continued but a second goal before half time never arrived.

Second half exactly the same and Dons got a deserved second when the tricky Harley Bond despatched with his left foot in the bottom corner. ⚽️

Dons continued to push and some great work by Noah Ford in the box brought a foul and gave the referee no choice but to award a penalty.

Up stepped the ever reliable Jack Morris who smashed the penalty into the top left corner to give Dons a score line there dominance deserved. ⚽️

Dons could have added a couple more but the game ended with a comfortable victory and clean sheet for Flynn Asher. 🧤

Player of the match could have been awarded to any of the players but the back four were superb all game winning every challenge with controlled aggression and precise tackles. 💪

Alfie fountain took the award for the second week running for his outstanding no nonsense defending and work rate at the heart of the defence. 🏅👏🏻

Unfortunately due to the ground not being very suitable after the amount of rainfall we have had to cancel Mini Dons this morning.

❗️SATURDAY TRAINING - January 17th❗️

Training is on tomorrow for the following age groups… finally!!! 🥳🥶

🟢 Mini Dons 9.30-10.30am (Gareth)
🟡 Under 9’s 9-10am (Zack)
🟢 U10’s - 9.30-11am (Jim/Dan)
🟡 Under 11’s Girls 9-10am (Zack)

If you are coming along for the first time then the name of the coach for each age group is in the brackets next to the time.

Please make sure your child has a drink with them and is also wearing suitable clothing for the weather and conditions. Shin pads are a must, micro or mini shin pads are not permitted!

🚗 - Please DO NOT park on the grass, which includes the grass verge along the entrance/exit lane.

🧁 - Tuck shop will be open inside the cabin.

🚻 - Toilets are located inside the cabin. Please do not enter the community centre.

‼️ SATURDAY TRAINING CANCELLED ‼️

After a pitch inspection this morning we have to cancel all training as our pitches are still frozen and unsafe at the moment.

I know we are all itching to get back to football but we have to put safety first. Keep your fingers crossed for next week. 🤞🙏
