A tribute to Peter aka Macca. RIP Peter 😘
It is with a very heavy heart that we pass on the sad news of Peter McDonnell's passing. Peter was an integral part of Ripponden Pétanque and caught the bug when we were in our infancy several years ago. Prior to Pétanque, Peter was a pioneer of Stones Cricket Club.
For over 30 years he held the role of chairman of the club.
During his tenure he devoted himself to promoting the junior side of cricket, dedicating his time to developing youngsters and throwing his heart and soul into all training sessions to make them the best that they could be and instilling his love of the game into them. When Peter stepped down from his role as Chairman, his commitment didn't cease, as he took on the role of President of his beloved club and held this position until his passing in October.
As life moved on, Peter's enthusiasm didn't wain and he embraced his second favourite pastime - Pétanque. Just like Peter though, it wasn't a pastime - it was a passion. We welcomed groups along to try their hand at this game that most people hadn't even heard of, and Peter oiled the wheels to make sure everything ran smoothly. We welcomed WI, Rainbows, Basement Project, and many other groups and this would not have been possible without Peter and his tireless efforts.
Quietly working behind the scenes, never needing to be asked, it was just what he loved to do; raking, weeding, strimming the grass around the piste. Peter just got on and did it and always with a smile on his face and a song in his heart.
Peter's life will be celebrated on Friday 21st November, at 11:15am at St Patrick's Church, 12:45pm at Park Wood Crematorium, and a gathering at The Beehive to remember him and share our memories.
From all at Ripponden Pétanque: we will miss you dearly Peter. Keep smiling, keep singing and keep shooting those Boules xx
