Safeguarding Update - Changes to the definition of regulated activity and DBS Checks across the UK from September 1st 2026.

What are the changes?
Prior to September 2026, some people who regularly taught, coached, trained, cared for or supervised children were not considered to be carrying out regulated activity if they were supervised by someone already in regulated activity.

However, this supervision exemption has been removed, meaning some roles that were previously outside regulated activity will now fall within it, even when supervised.

For sports clubs, activity providers and governing bodies, this could affect which roles require Enhanced DBS checks with Barred List in England and Wales, or Enhanced AccessNI checks in Northern Ireland.

What should you now do?
Carry out a review of roles within your facility/gym which involve any regular contact with children where people teach, train, instruct, care for or supervise children often or overnight, this could include:
- assistant coaches
- volunteer coaches
- team managers
- parent helpers
- activity leaders
- volunteers on camps, tours and residential trips

Check what this means for the roles in your organisation and learn more about the definition of regulated activity: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/change-to-the-definition-of-regulated-activity-with-children-from-1-september-2026

It's a short summary of all the action that went on across the weekend, as well as what's next for those who podiumed in Speed, Skill, and Style 👀

We're still blown away by the incredible support the community gave us across the weekend. It was certainly a success, and an event to remember. Thank you to everyone who was a part of the first British Parkour Championships.

🎙️ The Parkour UK Podcast!

We’re throwing it back with this episode we recorded with Hazal Nehir, a Red Bull athlete and one of the most recognisable names in parkour

Hazal opens up about recovering from an extremely difficult injury, the challenges that came with rebuilding her confidence, and the techniques she used to find her way back to loving parkour again, eventually returning to perform at the highest level.

It’s a really honest conversation about injury, confidence, mindset and what it takes to come back stronger.

We hope you’ve been enjoying the podcasts, and we want to hear from you!

Our new pool of tutors are in full swing!

Towards the end of last year, and through to the start of this year, we delivered two cohorts of our NEW Level 4 Master Coach and Coach Educator qualification with UK Coaching.

By 2035 we want every child and young person to have the opportunity to try parkour, and in order to do that we need to develop and grow the coaching workforce.

That's why our Level 4 qualification was developed. It allows us to support and invest more parkour coaches throughout the UK, supporting them to become tutors for our new parkour coaching qualifications. This allows us to run more parkour coaching courses throughout the UK, and through a more regular basis.

This weekend two of those newly qualified Level 4 coaches delivered their first Level 1 course at the Aspire Parkour Academy in Peterborough.

We've been rolling out some trial Level 1 courses across the summer, and all of them have been a success. It's been brilliant to see so many people wanting to take the first steps to become parkour coaches.

We want to say a huge well done to Kieran and Nyesha for delivering a fantastic Level 1 for the learners!

If you're interested in a parkour coaching qualification course in your area, please get in touch with us VIA email: [email protected]

Our Community Ambassadors gave some prizes out during the British Parkour Championships at the start of the month.

Rachel Gough is our Elite Female Ambassador, and her chosen prize for the weekend was “Best Up & Comer”. This prize was for the person who missed out on the podium but threw down over the weekend.

Rachel awarded her prize to Joel Rudkin. Joel is only 16 years old, but he managed to qualify for the finals of the Style competition in the open division.

Joel worked hard throughout the weekend, not only building his own style lines, but working with others in the style category to build their own lines, bounce ideas off one another, and supporting other individuals & spectators throughout the weekend.

The prize was a pair of OLLO footwear - We want to thank OLLO for supporting the event by donating some prizes for our community awards.

Well done Joel!

Our Community Ambassadors gave some prizes out during the British Parkour Championships at the start of the month.

Georgia is our Community Female Ambassador, and her chosen prize for the weekend was “Best Volunteer”. The idea of this prize was to celebrate those who helped us make the British Parkour Championships happen.

Georgia awarded her prize to Isaac Macintyre. Not only was Isaac an absolute monster on the DJ decks, but he also went above and beyond to make sure the Parkour UK staff, ambassadors and volunteers were all well looked after.

Isaac also helped us with the crowd control, making sure everyone was safe during the event, and made the spectators aware what has happening next in the competition. Isaac is a huge credit to the Street Monkeys organisation, and was an absolute legend throughout the whole weekend.
