Entry confirmed… Poole bay here we come!

Huge thanks to our sponsors Coryton for the fuel supply, feels great to be running a clean burning engine on sustainable fuel, a positive step for us as a team.

Also the constant support, advice and guidance from Adam Younger Design that you get when you have an AYD boat, absolutely second to none and with this being our first season in Offshore racing, he’s been an absolute godsend in terms of advice, education on the hull and goals to hit with the boat.

Roll on Poole Bay!

Nothing reminds you more just how forgiving offshore boats are until you Jump back into a P16 with a V4 yam…. I’m positive the hole in my seat cushion was caused by the base of my spine!

Huge thank you to David Wilkey for these pictures, many people seem to be surprised just how valuable pictures like this can be in terms of our boat development, being able to see what the hulls doing in terms of water deflection and recovery is valuable information when it comes to set up and potential hull changes, I am pleased to say however with the VSX it’s pretty damn good as it currently sits, in fact the very few ‘moments’ we had out there where mostly down to my short comings as a driver, but as we get more familiar with the new hull Im rather hoping I’ll improve in that aspect.

We have also now we’ve adjusted the bow tank pick up so it’s not leaking off after filling up… that explains why the boat felt more flighty on the final leg, very valuable race for us in many ways, pushing on for Poole race with plenty of testing to come.

Saturday was the start of the 2026 UKOPRA championship with the first race being a circa 60NM course around the Isle of Wight, starting and finishing at the east Lepe buoy.

Heading out into reported flat conditions we where greeted by the exact opposite, big swells, strong winds, with 28 boats starting we took to the start run, 28 boats starting quite quickly dropped down to 15 boats finishing the entire course, one of the boats suffering a retirement was our only competition in 3b, as we completed the course we earned our first win of 2026, usually I wouldn’t really consider this a victory, one horse races and all that… but with what we faced out there… the amount of retired boats, two loosing engines, one boat missing in its entirety (crew safe and well) we are proud of what we achieved, it was a testament to the boat, which suffered no damage… we lost a compass… I lost a visor… but all very minor stuff.

Huge thank you to Adam Younger for the boat, not only did it withstand the punishment it was incredibly capable in the conditions, not once did I feel like we where out of our depth in that boat.

A thank you to our Sponsor Coryton for the fuel, what we save on race expenses we re-invest into preparation, equipment and upgrades, Saturday was a testament to the value of that.

And a huge amount of credit goes to Luke for top tier navigation when it came to keeping us on course throughout the race.

UKOPRA for an outstanding event, we felt so well looked after, great facilities, great free social event on Saturday night, absolutely top tier.
