A question for you all…

As many of you know, we’ve recently updated the Hidden Somerset website and added a dedicated What’s On section where anyone can submit events for free.

When we first started planning the site, one of our aims was to keep it completely free from AI-generated images. We wanted real stories, real places and real people.

But here’s the dilemma…

Many small businesses, charities, village halls and event organisers now use AI to help design posters, write event descriptions, social posts and website copy. Sometimes it’s the difference between getting an event promoted or not promoting it at all.

So what do you think?

Should Hidden Somerset:
👍 Allow AI-assisted event and directory descriptions
👎 Keep all submissions entirely human

For us, the important thing is that the event is real, the information is accurate, and the story reflects the people behind it.

We’re genuinely interested to hear your thoughts.

Where do you stand on AI when it comes to local events, businesses and community websites? Let us know in the comments….

A new way to discover the hidden corners of your beautiful county

Many of you will know that we’re rather fond of a quiet lane, a hidden village, a good pub and a route that takes the long way round. That’s why we’re so excited to see our friend Simon launch his new venture, Secret Lanes. .lanes

Simon will be helping both locals and visitors discover the Somerset, Dorset and Devon that sits beyond the guidebooks. The winding lanes with grass growing down the middle, the villages you’ve never heard of, the hidden viewpoints, orchards, potteries, cafés and stories that make this part of the world so special.

Whether you fancy exploring on foot or would prefer one of Simon’s comfortable e-bikes to help tackle the hills, every adventure is designed around your interests and pace.

We often hear people say, “I’ve lived here all my life and never knew that was there.” Secret Lanes is all about finding those places.

So if you’re looking for a different kind of day out, fancy seeing Somerset through fresh eyes, or have friends visiting who want to experience the real countryside, Simon might just be the perfect guide.

Have a look at what he’s creating and give him a follow. We suspect he’ll be uncovering a few gems that even Hidden Somerset hasn’t found yet… 😉

Can I stress this isn’t a paid for ad, Simon is a dear friend and lovely human and I also just think it’s a great idea!
