History:
The UK Wing Chun Kuen Academy's lineage descends directly from Grandmaster Ip Chun; the eldest son of the late Yip Man, who was responsible for bringing Wing Chun to the forefront of popular martial arts. Sifu Karl Stanley, the senior instructor for the academy, was certified in Hong Kong as in instructor for both the Ip Chun Academy and the Ving Tsun Athletic Association. We hold this l
ink uniquely in the South West, as he is the only certified instructor for the Ip Chun Academy in the region. The academy maintains regular contact with instructors from Hong Kong alongside hosting seminars with them here in the UK. The Academy:
The UK Wing Chun Kuen Academy teaches only authentic Wing Chun kung fu in a progressive and friendly environment. Within the class, time is spent with each individual, as we believe it is essential to tailor training to a students needs. We adhere to the core principals of the wing chun system as taught by Sifu Ip Chun in Hong Kong. We provide our students with a wealth of opportunities to train with leading exponents of the system both here in the UK, with certified associations, and also in the home of Wing Chun; Hong Kong and China. At the academy self-defence and fitness are promoted, encouraging both self-confidence and a high degree of skill in Wing Chun kung fu. Our approach to self-defence is practical and realistic. We utilise the skills trained in this traditional martial art, and apply it to the stresses of today’s environment without having to modify the system. Wing Chun is renowned for its hand speed and is generally perceived as an external system. Wing Chun has many more facets, and we stress the importance of internal development within this system.
