Redditch Borough 3-3 Wake Green
Tonight’s fixture had it all — the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Wake Green travelled to Redditch for the final game of the season and got off to the worst possible start, finding themselves 3-0 down inside the opening 12 minutes after a lightning-fast start from the hosts.
Wakes gradually settled into the game and began to find their rhythm. The momentum could have shifted even sooner after a Redditch player was fortunate to remain on the pitch despite two separate incidents of serious foul play, with the referee deciding no further action was needed. Emotions were running high all over the pitch — exactly as said, the good, the bad, and the ugly.
At half-time, Wakes suffered a major blow as Riley was forced to leave and be taken to hospital due to injury. The lads rallied around him and came out for the second half determined not to let his efforts go to waste.
Wake Green came out firing with real grit and determination. The comeback started with Jess finishing from a Leighton cross. Soon after, Jess turned provider with a dangerous delivery that was met by a header from Will to make it 3-2. With 10 minutes remaining, Jack reacted quickest after a pinball moment in the box to poke home the equaliser and complete an incredible comeback.
Unfortunately, Wakes were dealt another cruel blow late on when the same player who was fortunate to still be on the pitch caught Will, leaving him with a severe concussion.
There was almost a dramatic winner at the death as Jess delivered another dangerous cross, Archie controlled well but saw his effort drift just wide.
A point earned the hard way after showing huge character to fight back from 3-0 down.
Now we look ahead to next season. 💙⚽️
