The opening six holes require you to execute well off the tee and find the greens. It's not until the 7th that you have the first genuine birdie opportunity of the round. Avoiding the well-placed bunkers will leave you with a great chance to pick up a shot on this shorter par 5.

Our 8th. The bunkers short of the green on this short dogleg par 4 mean the best policy from the tee is to play as close to the right-side fairway bunkers as possible. In doing so, you open up the best view of the green.

The course has undergone significant transformation in recent years. Strategic removal of trees has improved light across the greens and playing surfaces in winter, while our cutting approach has increased closely mown areas and fairway width. Coupled with regular sand applications, the result is a fast-running, firm inland course that is as much a mental examination as a test of strength.

Much is written about Colt's distinctive style of bunkering, but his work spanned many decades and every different type of terrain meaning what he used was quite varied.

Here however, his large flash-faced bunkering is a feature, consistent with many of his courses from that era. On a relatively flat site, the strong visual threat provides great texture to the holes and helps underpin the strategy off the tee.

Our Club Championship delivered two outstanding victories last weekend. Sixteen-year-old Kamraan Arastu claimed the Men's title with a three over par total of 74 and 71, edging out Oliver Scriven by a single shot.

Yen Pham won the Ladies Scratch Trophy, posting 86 and 77 for 17 over par.

Congratulations to both champions and all who made it a memorable event.
