Sidmouth Bowling Club A SPORT FOR ALL
Sidmouth's friendly bowling club The bowls club was originally part of the Sidmouth Cricket and Croquet Club but that was not to last long.

In May 1908 the Bedford Lawn (now a car park) was levelled for bowls and membership introduced at a cost of 7/6d. It moved to its present location just a few hundred yards away in 1922 where it now boasts 2 fine greens providing 12 rinks, 2 of which are available for the public use. In 1972 the indoor facility, the earliest in East Devon with 3 rinks, was built attached to the existing clubhouse and ever since bowling has taken place all year round.

Greens maintenance. TOP picture: Black covers warm up and sweat the grass. Leather Jackets are drawn to the surface. After 24 hours the covers are slowly rolled up and the leather Jackets quickly removed. BOTTOM picture: Crows have started digging up the leather jackets. That is the damage the treatment will avoid.

They did it! Jill Bishop and Brenda Somerfield won the O55 Pairs County Final. "We were fortunate, it could have gone either way," said Brenda after beating fellow finalists from United Services, Barnstaple. Having held an early lead the SBC pair fought back after trailing by 7 shots to start the last end with a single shot advantage. They took 3 more shots to secure a thrilling 4 shot victory.
