๐ DAY 5: Stop and Think Before You Step In! ๐๐พ
Out at our Erith, Crook Log, and Sidcup pools, our professional lifeguards are always watching out for you.
But when you are near open water like Danson Lake or the River Thames, that responsibility falls entirely on you.
The very first step of the Water Safety Code is simple but life-saving: STOP AND THINK. ๐ง ๐
๐ซ Itโs Not a Suggestion, Itโs a Warning
When the weather gets hot, the impulse to just jump straight into the water is incredibly strong. But you have to fight that urge.
๐ Look at the Signs: "No Swimming" signs aren't there to ruin your funโthey are warning you about hidden dangers you literally cannot see from the bank.
โ ๏ธ Spot the Differences: In our leisure centre pools, the floor is flat, clear, and predictable. In open water, you are dealing with sudden drop-offs, tangled reeds, and dangerous underwater debris.
๐งโโ๏ธ The Hardest Part: Getting Back Out!
Think about the bank itself. If it is steep, muddy, or slippery, what happens if you slip or jump in?
In a lake or a tidal river like the Thames, finding an exit is often the hardest part. If you can't climb back out, panic sets in fast. ๐๐งโโ๏ธ
โ๏ธ Don't Let a Sunny Day Turn Into a Tragedy
Never let a split-second decision change your life forever. Use your head before you use your feet. Stop and Think. ๐ค๐ญ
Want to enjoy the water without the risk? Come see us back at the pool for a fun, safe swim! ๐โโ๏ธโจ
