🏏 MAIDEN CENTURY FOR AYAAN AKHTAR! 💯👏

Congratulations to youngster Ayaan Akhtar, who brought up his maiden hundred for the 2nd XI in last weekend’s victory over Follifoot.

Ayaan produced a brilliant knock of 108, including 19 fours and 1 six. He was well supported by Abbas Ali, who struck an excellent 77, as the 2nd XI posted a strong 273-5.

With the ball, captain Touseef Ahmed led from the front, taking 4 wickets, while club legend Ali ‘🪑’ Gul also claimed 3 wickets as Follifoot were bowled out for 242.

A fantastic innings from Ayaan and another important win which helps cement the 2nd XI’s place at the top of the league — now 17 points clear of second place! 🏆

One step closer to promotion and bringing the league title home.

🏆 Yorkshire Taveners Under-14 Champions! 🏏

A massive congratulations to our Saltaire Cricket Club contingent on winning the Yorkshire Taveners Under-14 competition!

Our very own Scc junior coach Feyaz Akram coached the Bradford junior league representative team for the last 3 years and managed to take the team all the way to the final and won the championship trophy 🏆

“Well done to all the boys involved in the squad, from the Bradford junior league. It’s been an excellent team performance throughout the comp,with some excellent individual performances! The boys have been brilliant and the Bradford junior league should be proud” said feyaz.

Well done to Aadiy, Junaid, Yusuf, Aadam and Isa on a brilliant achievement. You represented the Saltaire cc with great skill, determination and teamwork throughout the competition.

You have made everyone at Saltaire Cricket Club extremely proud. A fantastic achievement from a talented group of young cricketers.

What a phenomenal performance from these two!

Jibrael Malik and Sandeep Singh produced a record-breaking 301-run partnership for the second wicket as Saltaire piled the pressure on North Leeds with a master class in batting.

Jibrael led the way with a magnificent 166 from 148 balls, while Sandeep blasted an outstanding 152 from just 103 deliveries. Their incredible partnership laid the platform for Saltaire to post a club record 426-5 from their 50 overs.

As if that wasn't enough, Sandeep completed a truly memorable all-round performance by claiming five wickets with a superb display of leg-spin bowling.

Saltaire remain 2nd in the league, 14 points behind leaders Otley, and extend their unbeaten run to 11 matches. Attention now turns to a huge league clash against title contenders Bilton, before the Waddilove Cup Final at Rawdon CC on 2 August 2026.

A great weekend of cricket in the British sunshine saw Saltaire complete a memorable double over Burley CC.

Saltaire 1st XI faced the challenge of taking on a strong and competitive Burley side twice in the space of two days, first in a crucial league fixture on Saturday before returning on Sunday for the Waddilove Cup semi-final.

- League game -

Captain Saj Ali won the toss and, under the sun, had no hesitation in electing to bat first.

Saltaire made the perfect start with an outstanding opening partnership of 172. Jibrael Malik notching a superb century of 101, while Farhan Hussain continued his excellent form with a fluent 77. The pair put Saltaire firmly in control before Burley staged an impressive fightback, eventually bowling Saltaire out for 250.

Burleys innings responded with determination, led by Dan Revis, whose excellent 98 kept the chase alive. However, Saltaire's bowlers held their nerve under pressure, restricting the hosts to 243-9.

Muhammad Tariq spearheaded the attack, striking early before producing a masterclass in death bowling with a series of pinpoint yorkers. He finished with outstanding figures of 4-62 from his allotted 15 overs. It was a complete team performance in a fiercely contested match, earning Saltaire a deserved seven-run victory.

The win moved Saltaire into second place in the league, just 13 points behind the leaders.

- Sunday – Waddilove Cup Semi-Final -

Attention quickly turned to Sunday's eagerly anticipated Waddilove Cup semi-final, once again away to Burley.

After losing the toss on another excellent batting wicket, Saltaire made the dream start with the ball. Muhammad Tariq once again set the tone by dismissing the dangerous Jason Wright early before combining brilliantly with overseas professional Khalil Ullah to reduce Burley to 6-4.

Burley showed great resilience to recover from the early collapse, eventually posting 176-9 from their 45 overs.

Saltaire's reply began in dramatic fashion. Saturday's centurion Jibrael Malik and the experienced Sandeep Singh both fell in the opening over, leaving Saltaire in early trouble at 4-2. Matters became even more tense when the ever-reliable Farhan Hussain was unfortunately run out in a mix-up, with the score at 56-3.

With the game finely poised, Khalil Ullah and Ihsan Ihsanullah produced a batting masterclass. Khalil finished unbeaten on 81, while Ihsan also scored an experienced 55 not out as the pair guided Saltaire home with an unbeaten partnership that saw the target reached with 10 overs to spare and six wickets in hand.

It was a fitting end to a superb weekend for Saltaire 1st XI, who not only strengthened their position in second place in the league only 13 points behind leaders Otley but also booked their place in the Waddilove Cup Final.

Saltaire will now face Addingham CC in the Waddilove Cup Final at Rawdon CC on Sunday 2 August 2026, with the opportunity for silverware!

A senior debut to remember for 14-year-old Muhammad Yusuf Hussain, who made his Saltaire senior debut in last night’s T20 victory over Bingley
Congs.

Yusuf bowled a great spell, claiming 4 wickets including a hat-trick to help secure the win.

A fantastic achievement on his first senior appearance and a moment he’ll never forget. Congratulations Yusuf - the first of many, hopefully! 🏏

Saltaire 1st XI got the season off to a great start. Losing the toss on a typical green seamer in April, meant the loss of early wickets led to overseas Khalil Ullah Khan digging and scoring a classy 129 not out, also with a strike rate of 112 despite the tricky conditions. He was well supported by Sandeep Singh with 44 alongside some low order contributions to take the final total to a strong 277.

The bowling unit did their best to keep things tight in the 2nd half and take wickets at regular intervals despite the wicket being more batsman friendly after drying out over the course of the afternoon. New signing Muhammad Amir claiming 3 wickets while the rest of the unit all contributing.

Saltaire 2nd XI also got the season off to a winning start. Winning the toss and captain Touseef Ahmed electing to bowl and leading the way with an outstanding 5 wicket haul. Ably supported by the ever improving new ball specialist Ali Gul.

An experienced innings from Mohammad Awais finishing on 41 not out and Abbas Ali 39 meant the 2s chased down the total with 17 overs to spare.
