Congratulations to Mark and Ollie, who successfully finished Chase The Sun on Saturday - a 330km dash from Kent to Somerset, riding against the clock to get to the pier before sunset!
Well done also to Simon, who competed in the Swindon Wheelers Cycling Club 10-mile Time Trial on Sunday, setting a great time of 22:21 and taking more than a minute off his PB for the distance.
Our club trip to Girona, Spain, is in full swing - the gang have been exploring the Catalan countryside and rigorously sampling the local culinary delights!

Summer is in full swing at Sherston Velo - last weekend was our annual Solstice Ride, with club members enjoying a long day in the saddle before a post-ride social gathering at The Rattlebone Inn . A lot of pizza was consumed!
Our Solstice theme continues this weekend, with club members Mark and Ollie riding Chase The Sun Chase the Sun - Cycle The Longest Day, in which they will attempt to ride the 205 miles from Sheppey in Kent to Weston-Super-Mare before sunset.
At the other end of the distance scale, club rider Simon will be competing in the Swindon Wheelers Cycling Club 10-mile time trial.
We also have a group of riders heading off on our Summer tour to Girona in Spain.

It's a busy week! Watch this space to see how they get on.

Ready...steady...race!

Our first ever Open Time Trial on Sunday was a great event, with 40 riders competing on the challenging Didmarton circuit.

Despite the blustery wind and tricky road surface on the A46, the event was highly competitive, with the top riders in the CTT West District continuing their tussle for the top spot in the regional rankings.

Top honours went to Rob Francis (Team Bottril Nopinz) and Liz Kemp (Pronto Bikes) in the TT bike class, and to Ben Bollans (Royal Leamington Spa CC) and Heidi North (360VRT) in the road bike competition.

Congratulations to all who took part in tough conditions, especially for the heroic post-race effort to demolish all the cake!

Another week, another barnstorming win for our Cat C e-sports race team!

For the second week in a row, we finished a tough virtual race with first place in the team classification, two riders in the top 10 and all six of the team in the top 25.

The race was straight into a long climb from the start, with David Bracewell, Greg Hughes and Simon Vannerley on the right side of the initial split in the peloton and staying in a 12-rider group over the top of the ascent, with Jim Neal not far behind.

After a fast-paced flat section, lap 2 saw the lead group splinter and our three lead riders isolated, but a rapid descent and chase by Simon saw a small group form, picking up David and allowing them to cross the finish line in the top 10 with Greg and Jim not far behind. Ian Sach and Lloyd Wood fought to the end to help the team achieve maximum points for the race and top the league table after two rounds.

In the Cat B race, pocket rocket Ollie Setterfield was the pick of the Sherston Velo riders, picking up 12th place, with Mark Jones and Mark Walsh also finishing in the top 30.

Congratulations to George Roberts from our Junior section, who took 2nd place in the Open Junior race at the Dursley Road Club Stouts Hill hill climb last weekend in his first ever time trial.

It was the final round of our Club 10 this week, featuring a 2-up Team Time Trial, with Simon Cox and James Ecclestone of Chippenham and District Wheelers taking first place in 24:10, breaking their own TTT course record in the process.

The first Sherston Velo team home was James Rogers and Simon Vannerley, crossing the line in 26:54 to take 3rd overall.

Thanks to everyone who has taken part in the year's series - we'll be back again in April next year!

Club members Andy and Simon's cycling adventure on the 1,500km London Edinburgh London audax didn't quite turn out as planned thanks to Storm Floris!
At just before midday on day 2 of the 5-day event, organisers stopped riders while they assessed the safety of the route. 60mph-plus winds on the summits of the Pennines and the Border Hills in Scotland meant it wasn't safe to continue, so on the morning of day 3 riders were instructed to make their way back to the start.
At the time the event was paused, Andy had completed 375km of the route to the checkpoint in Malton (N Yorks), while Simon's earlier start time saw him complete 470km to reach Richmond.
Having retraced their whee-tracks, both our riders made it safely back to event HQ in Writtle (Essex), completing 750km and 940km respectively - still a great effort by both!
They are sitting out this weekend's club rides...

Another great evening of racing at our monthly club time trial yesterday! Honours on the night went to Arran Armstrong of , with Matt Ferris (unattached) and Simon Vannerley (Sherston Velo) tussling it out for 2nd place, Ferris eventually crossing the line 4 seconds up to take silver.
In the road bike category, local rider Jim Power (Sherston Velo) was the victor in another hotly-contested battle with Tony Bugg (Sherston Velo), only 16 seconds separating them on the line.

Our next TT is on Thu 7 August - see the CTT website for details. Non-members are welcome, entry £5
