Crosspool U10s Derby Day Delight at Coldwell Lane

Derby day under the lights at Coldwell Lane is always a highlight, and this clash between Crosspool and Hallam certainly lived up to expectations. With several players sharing the same school class, there was a little extra edge to an already competitive fixture.

Coming into the game off the back of a strong cup performance on Sunday, Crosspool started confidently. From the first whistle, the team showed great discipline—defensively organised, marking tightly, and looking solid across the pitch.

Although the game remained tight early on, Crosspool began to take control and create chances. Hallam defended resolutely, with some last-ditch tackles and impressive goalkeeping keeping the score level. Seb struck the post after a well-worked move, while Reyansh saw a powerful effort saved. Despite dominating much of the play, Crosspool went into the break without scoring.

At half-time, the message was clear: stay calm, keep passing, and be confident in carrying the ball forward and taking shots.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Crosspool in control. Lucas was composed and reliable in goal, while the defence kept Hallam’s attackers quiet. Further forward, the team linked up well, creating chances through smart passing and showing real commitment by tracking back when needed.

The breakthrough finally came when Frankie delivered a dangerous cross that the Hallam keeper unfortunately spilled into his own net. While fortunate in its finish, the goal was no more than Crosspool deserved.

Hallam pushed on, but Crosspool stood firm, with every player working hard to mark, tackle, and clear their lines.

Another goal came with a moment of brilliance from Noah. Latching onto a high ball into the box, he produced a delightful flick over the keeper—an excellent finish to cap a strong individual and team performance.

At the final whistle, Crosspool could be immensely proud. It’s never easy playing midweek after a full day at school, but the team showed energy, focus, and determination throughout.

Man of the Match could have gone to anyone, but the award went to Ari, who has been in outstanding form in recent weeks. Special mentions also go to Max C and Seb for driving the team forward, as well as strikers Noah and Reyansh for their excellent contributions.

Next up is a quick turnaround with a quarter-final cup clash against Sheffield Rangers—a tough test against higher-division opposition, but one this team will approach with confidence given their recent form.

Crosspool v Brinsworth Whitehall – Sheffield Trophy

After an enjoyable tour at the Filey Cup last weekend, Crosspool returned to cup action with a challenging home tie against Brinsworth Whitehall. Following a closely fought league encounter between the two sides, this was always set to be a competitive battle.

Crosspool made a bright start, moving the ball well and creating early chances. Noah and Max both went close as Crosspool dominated the opening stages. Despite this, Brinsworth looked dangerous on the counter, with their striker holding the ball up effectively and bringing others into play.

The early pressure paid off when Noah finished a well-worked move down the right-hand side to give Crosspool the lead.

However, despite their strong start, Crosspool lost focus towards the end of the half and conceded two quick goals due to poor marking. They went into the break frustrated, knowing their performance levels had dropped and highlighting the importance of maintaining concentration throughout the game.

After regrouping at half time, Crosspool came out with renewed determination. The second half was a hard-fought contest, but the home side began to take control. Their efforts were rewarded when Broz struck a powerful shot into the corner to bring the scores level—a fantastic goal at a crucial moment.

With momentum on their side, Crosspool continued to press, and it wasn’t long before they took the lead. Max drove forward from midfield, exchanged passes with Frankie, and delivered a dangerous ball into the box. Both Noah and Omar were well positioned, but it was Noah who found the space to finish calmly and secure his second of the game.

The closing stages were frantic, with Brinsworth pushing hard for an equaliser, but Crosspool held firm to secure the win and book a place in the quarter-finals against Sheffield Rangers.

It was an excellent game, with both teams playing their part. Crosspool can be particularly proud of their second-half performance, showing great character to come from behind and progress to the next round.

There were strong performances across the pitch, but the Man of the Match award deservedly went to Noah Lee for an outstanding display—leading the line well, pressing tirelessly, and scoring a crucial brace.

A busy week lies ahead, with a local derby against Hallam on Tuesday night followed by a cup clash against Sheffield Rangers next Sunday.

Great to finally be back in action after several recent cancellations as Crosspool U10s took on Dearne and District U10 at Coldwell Lane.

With regular goalkeeper Lucas unavailable, Frankie Siu stepped up to play in goal and did a fantastic job between the posts.

Crosspool played some excellent football throughout, moving the ball well, creating chances and showing great teamwork. Their efforts were rewarded with three goals — Omar opened the scoring, while Max Challenger added to his goal tally with a brace.

There were strong performances across the team, but the Man of the Match award went to Max Challenger, who was exceptional throughout and led the way with his energy and quality.

A really strong performance from the whole squad, especially considering the lack of recent games. Plenty of positives to take forward for the rest of the season.

Starting lineup: Frankie (GK), Seb and Ari (defence), Broz, Omar and Max (midfield), Noah (forward).
Substitutes: Teddy, Freddie and Reyansh.

Brinsworth Whitehall v Crosspool

Crosspool returned to action for the first time after the winter break, following last week’s postponed fixture against Hallam, with a tough away trip to Phoenix Sports Club to face Brinsworth Whitehill. A strong side who edged a tight game in the reverse fixture, the lads knew this would be another stern test and that they would need to be at their very best.

The instructions from the coaches were clear: compete, be first to every loose ball, and despite the muddy conditions, still look to pass the ball and play our football.

With a full squad available, Crosspool lined up with Lucas in goal; Freddie and Ari at the back; Frankie, Max and Teddy across midfield; and Noah leading the line. Seb, Reyansh, Omar and Broz waited eagerly on the bench.

Both teams started brightly and Brinsworth created a couple of early chances, but Lucas was calm and assured in goal, pulling off an excellent save from a Brinsworth free kick. Shortly afterwards, Crosspool took the lead when a dangerous Frankie corner caused problems and was turned into the net by a Brinsworth defender attempting to clear.

It wasn’t long before Brinsworth pulled one back after Crosspool failed to clear their lines and a loose ball was fired home. As the first half came to an end, both sides would reflect on a well-contested opening period, with chances at both ends.

Crosspool started the second half sluggishly and conceded a number of early chances. Despite having the upper hand, Brinsworth were repeatedly denied by some determined defending from Freddie and the confident presence of Lucas in goal.

Gradually, Crosspool grew into the game, moving the ball better and beginning to dominate possession. The breakthrough came when Brinsworth attempted to clear their lines and Teddy chased down a loose ball that looked destined to run out of play. He got there first, beat his man, and delivered a cross to the onrushing Max, who struck it first time and hammered the ball into the back of the net. A thoroughly deserved goal — and a great lesson in never giving up on a loose ball.

The remainder of the game was played at a frantic pace, with both teams battling hard to create chances. With just minutes remaining, Brinsworth scored when their striker pounced on another loose ball and finished smartly.

A highly competitive and entertaining match between two strong sides came to a close, with the lads trudging off muddy and tired but with heads held high. It was a strong performance against quality opposition.

Crosspool host Westfield next week — fingers crossed the weather holds — and will be looking to put in another battling display.

Man of the Match went to Broz, who delivered an excellent performance, showing great skill alongside tireless work rate, grit, and determination.

Crosspool U10 vs Darnall Diamonds – Match Report

After a wet Saturday and a cold overnight, an early pitch inspection gave the green light for this eagerly anticipated league clash. Crosspool faced Darnall Diamonds in what promised to be another fierce contest, following their previous high-scoring cup encounter.

Both teams started brightly, showing determination and energy from the first whistle. Crosspool lined up with Lucas in goal, Seb and Ari forming a solid defensive pairing, a midfield trio of Teddy, Max, and Frankie, with Noah up front - leading the line. Omar began on the bench, and with only one substitute available, rotation was key throughout the game.

The opening exchanges were tight, with both sides battling hard and defences standing firm. When chances did arise, both goalkeepers produced impressive saves to keep the score level. As the first half wore on, Crosspool began to assert themselves. After sustained pressure and some excellent passages of play, Frankie twice came close to breaking the deadlock. Eventually, the breakthrough came: Max drove down the left to win a corner, Teddy whipped in a low delivery, and Noah reacted quickest, flicking the ball past the keeper. A well-deserved goal after a dominant spell.

The second half saw Darnall come out stronger. Despite resolute defending from Seb and Ari, the visitors equalised early on after a scrappy sequence in the box, finishing smartly into the corner. With limited options on the bench, Crosspool began to tire, and Darnall created several chances. Lucas, however, was in inspired form—producing a string of brave, crucial saves to keep his team in the game.

The closing stages were all about grit and determination. Crosspool dug deep, throwing bodies on the line and battling for every ball. Every player showed commitment and character, and they should all be proud of their effort.

Man of the Match: Lucas – commanding in his area, fearless in his challenges, and outstanding with a series of top-class saves.

Next up: Treeton Terriers (Away) – the lads will need to bring the same spirit and commitment.
