The Selkirk Tennis Committee has been fortunate to secure funding through a grant from Foundation Scotland, a Small Schemes Award, and a generous donation from the Harris Trust.

They are now ready to replace their old, condemned clubhouse with a modern facility that includes disabled access, creating a welcoming space for everyone in the community.

They are very close to reaching their fundraising target but still have a small funding gap to bridge. Any donation, no matter the size, will make a real difference in helping them complete this fantastic project.

The local community was incredibly generous in supporting our boys' amazing rugby trip to Austria, and we'd love the opportunity to give something back. Several of the boys use the tennis club, so this project will benefit them as well as many others in the community.

We have another thank you, and this one is a very special one.

This time, it goes to our coaches- Ross Nixon, Ewan MacDougall, Rob Kelly and Andrew Renwick. Over the past six months they have given up so much of their own time, training with the boys twice a week, running gym sessions twice a week, and supporting them at every game. They also made sure all 32 boys stayed hydrated, regularly checked that sun cream was being applied, and somehow managed to keep an eye on everyone while sharing tents with them too! They deserve enormous thanks and praise for everything they have done.

A special thank you also goes to Teyl Bordes, our photographer, who has attended practices, games and Austria, keeping the Austria page and the Selkirk High School pages full of photographs so that parents, family and friends could follow the boys' journey and see what they were getting up to.

Thank you to Graham Marshall for helping to organise and support Kieran and the parents' committee in running the whole operation and making the trip to Austria happen.

And finally, Kieran Westlake…

Kieran deserves individual recognition for travelling from outside the Borders multiple times a week to deliver the School of Rugby at Selkirk High School, running practices twice a week, gym sessions twice a week, supporting the boys at games, and still finding time to play rugby for Selkirk himself.

When Kieran first raised the idea of taking the boys to Austria and explained what it would cost, he was met with some pessimism. But he persisted, believed it could be done, and look at what was achieved!

Kieran worked tirelessly preparing the boys, arranging fixtures, organising accommodation, securing sponsorship for the kits, providing mouthguards, and so much more. The list is endless.

Kieran's enthusiasm, positivity and belief were infectious, and they have resulted in a fantastic trip and an experience of a lifetime for all the boys.

Thank you to every single person who played a part in making this happen. You have created memories that these boys will never forget.

We wanted to say a huge thank you to Councillor Elaine Thornton-Nicol, who over the past six months has been a fantastic source of support behind the scenes. She has provided guidance and encouragement to the parents on the committee, shared her knowledge and experience, and kindly assisted with arranging the SBC coaches, helping to make many of our activities and trips possible.

We would also like to give a special shout-out to Calum Kerr, who has supported the team throughout this time. When we reached out to every councillor in the Scottish Borders asking for support, Elaine and Calum both stepped forward and made a real difference.

We just wanted to say a huge thank you to Scottish Borders Council for getting the boys to and from the airport safely and on time. It's been an amazing few days filled with matches, memories, and plenty of adventures. They now have an early 4am flight tomorrow morning and, all being well, should be home tomorrow. Safe travels, boys-we can't wait to hear all about your trip and see everyone back home! πŸ’™βœˆοΈ

It won't be long now until they're home after a jam-packed few days of competition, memories, and experiences. We’ll share updates over the next few days on how each of the teams got on during the tournament.
