First swim of the new year. Cold water(5°) and high tide but enjoyable and safe wearing good kit-wetsuit,Bright neoprene hat.,gloves and boots.
Always swim with a friend or inform someone on shore if you are swimming solo [There are no lifeguards on duty during the winter months]

Enjoyable wild swim on Friday with the weather changing every 5 minutes. Water getting colder now so always go prepared....

Once again. First heavy rain for ages leads to a sewage discharge at Southport. No response form United Utilities. I have contacted the Southport M.P. and U.U. I urge others to do the same . I receive these alerts from Surfers Against Sewage who provide a template for letters to these bodies.Their app is useful to have . 😤

Some windy weather recently bringing big waves and rough seas. It is always best to swim with a friend and inform the lifeguards if they are on duty. It can be difficult to keep a straight line too ( even with regular sighting 😎)

This has been a bitterly cold year so far but we have managed to get some chilly swims in. I am really pleased with my new wetsuit- a Zone3 Yulex suit - not as sleek or as fast as my Snugg or Huub but it is a good fit and has been wearable in temperatures as low as 5°. Made from a type of rubber as opposed to neoprene, the suit is more of a general Watersports suit ( similar to the ones used by lifeguards) but it was excellent value in the Christmas sales and should see me through to warmer days. Thanks to models Sam and Lindsay.😎

Kit review. It is important to have good kit for cold water swimming. I bought these gloves recently . They are ZONE3 YULEX and are by far the best swimming gloves I have had. They are rubber as opposed to neoprene. The key factors are the fit ( make sure they are tight ) and the elastic wrist strap prevents any water getting in. They are relatively expensive but ZONE3 have regular sales . RECOMMENDED.

Early morning swim yesterday showing my Ocean Activist badge from Surfers Against Sewage. Lovely morning but water wasn’t too clean with surface scum around. Have to keep the pressure on United Utilities.
