One of my favourite things to start my day off right, is a little paddle or swim in the sea...

This is problematic, given that I live so far away from the coast...

So here's my morning pick me up to start the day... it's even better when accompanied by a glorious sunrise and a beautiful cup of coffee...

A new job is so much more than learning a new job.

It’s learning a whole new routine.

What time you wake up. When you exercise. When you journal. When you eat. how and when you spend time with your family. When you switch off.

I now wake at 5am to journal and go to evening gym classes.

And perhaps the biggest change is this:

When you lose so many hours to working and commuting, you become much more discerning about what you do with the energy you have left.

You start asking:

Is this worth my time? Does this give me energy or drain it? Do I actually want to do this? What am I saying yes to?

Sometimes a new chapter doesn’t just change your circumstances.

It changes your choices.

And perhaps that’s not a bad thing.

Do we have a tendency to stack problems like stones?

One thing happens.

Then another.

And another.

Before we know it, we’re carrying a whole pile of heavy, weighty stones that we’ve somehow decided we need to hold all at once.

The problem is, our brains don’t always distinguish between:

“This needs dealing with today.”

and

“This might need dealing with eventually.”

So everything gets added to the pile.

And then we wonder why we feel overwhelmed.

Maybe the answer isn't to figure everything out at once.

Maybe it’s to pause and ask:

Which stone actually needs my attention today?

You don’t have to carry the whole pile just because it exists.

And you certainly don’t need to keep adding stones to it.

This little video came from my recent trip to The Sealife Centre. It reminded me of the phrase...

"No one ever made a difference by being like everyone else."

We’re often taught to fit in.

Say the right thing.
Follow the rules.
Don’t rock the boat.
Don’t stand out too much.

However, change rarely comes from conformity.

It comes from people willing to question, challenge and say:

“There has to be another way.”

Being different isn’t a problem to fix.

It might just be your greatest strength.

So perhaps stop asking, “How do I fit in?”

And start asking:

“What could I change if I stopped trying to?”

Yesterday we went to Seaham Beach to hunt for sea glass.

What looks like tiny pieces of treasure scattered along the shoreline actually has quite a story behind it.

For many years, glass waste from the local glass industry was dumped into the sea. Over time, the waves and sand have tumbled and smoothed those discarded pieces of glass, transforming them into the colourful sea glass that beachcombers now search for and treasure.

Something once considered waste has become something people actively value.

And it got me thinking about consequences.

Our actions rarely exist in isolation.

Sometimes we know exactly what the consequences might be. Sometimes we have absolutely no idea.

The choices we make today can ripple out much further than we can see, affecting people, places and even future generations in ways we could never have predicted.

And perhaps that's both a warning and an invitation.

We can't always know what our actions will create.

But we can pause and ask:

What am I putting into the world today?

Because we may never know where the ripples will end up.

Went to a bird show Yesterday.

Apparently the key to success is knowing when to spread your wings, trusting your instincts, and occasionally sh****ng on someone’s expectations.

Honestly… sounds like coaching to me.

Yesterday I spent a long time staring into an aquarium.

And it got me thinking...

Imagine being a fish.

Your whole world is the water around you.

You don't know what's beyond the glass. You don't know (or you've forgotten) how much bigger the world is. You don't know what you're missing.

And sometimes I think we do something remarkably similar.

We mistake the life we're currently living for the only life available to us.

“This is just how things are.”

“I don't really have a choice.”

“It's too late to change now.”

“I've come this far, so I might as well keep going.”

But what if your current circumstances aren't the whole picture?

What if there are choices you haven't considered yet?

A different direction. A different relationship with work. A boundary you've never allowed yourself to set. A version of yourself you've never given permission to become.

Sometimes we don't need all the answers.

We just need to become curious about what might exist beyond the glass.

The world might be considerably bigger than the tank you've been swimming in.

Why are we so bad at endings?

We’re brilliant at celebrating beginnings.

New jobs. New relationships. New chapters. New opportunities. Babies...

But endings? We often treat them like failure.

And boundaries? Well, they often seem to get the same treatment, if not worse.

We admire the person who keeps going. Who puts everyone else first. Who makes it work. Who never gives up.

But what about the person who says:

“This isn’t working for me anymore, and I’m going to stop.”

That takes courage too.

Perhaps we’re uncomfortable with boundaries, because a boundary can inconvenience someone else.

We tell people to protect their energy, know their worth and choose themselves…

…and then have the temerity to judge them when they actually do.

But an ending doesn’t necessarily mean something was a mistake.

A job can have taught you something and still need to end.

A friendship can have been wonderful and still no longer fit.

An opportunity can be good and still be wrong for you right now.

Something can have mattered deeply…

…and still be over.

Maybe we need to stop asking, “Why did you give up?”

And start asking:

“What did it take for you to finally choose yourself?”

Other people in your life are often surprised when an ending comes about. It can be even harder when there isn’t a clearly defined conclusion.

Endings rarely happen because of one single event.

More often, they come after a hundred things you noticed, but never felt safe enough to say out loud.

There are some things that just make my heart happy… and stationery is definitely one of them.

Give me a beautiful notebook, a lovely pen, some colourful stickers and a few things I absolutely didn't need for journalling… and apparently I’m powerless.

There’s something about choosing your stationery that makes journalling feel like a little ritual before you’ve even written a word.

So here’s my latest haul. Because sometimes the small things really do bring a ridiculous amount of joy.

What stationery weakness do you have?

The summer holidays are almost over…and it's been amazing.

If we’re honest, many parents are also starting to fantasise about those precious moments of peace and solitude again.

A quiet coffee. A walk without someone asking for snacks. Five minutes where nobody needs anything from you.

The kids, however, still have other plans.

Because apparently, the end of the holidays is not a time for calm reflection.

It’s a time for ONE MORE ADVENTURE, ONE MORE SNACK and absolutely NO PERSONAL SPACE.

So if you’re counting down to September, know that you’re not alone.

And perhaps, like this pair of seagulls (this Mumma Seagull was henpecked for quite some time), we just need to accept that sometimes… boundaries are a little... aspirational.
