Devs 0-2 Rossington

The Lads end their season with a 2-0 loss at league winners Rossington, we fell just short with our efforts for silverware this season, but still managed the clubs first ever appearance in the Abacus lighting midweek cup semi final, beating 3 higher league opposition on the way!πŸ‘ and we finish the season in 2nd place in the league winning 10 of our 14 games! So all in all on reflection it was still a season the lads and gaffer Rob Gunn can be proud of, this along with several 16-18 year olds from the clubs youth teams making their first ever appearances for the club, showing there is a good pathway of progression into the clubs adult football teams, there was also 3/4 of our lads who have also made appearances higher up the football pyramid due to their performances for us this season, showing what a great job the Devs have done this season.

Onto the game Saturday. The Devs fielded the youngest side they have all season with 7 of the 14 man squad all under the age of 18, and only fell by the way of two set pieces to the vastly experienced Rosso side. They scored two in the first half, and then the devs showed real determination and team spirit to keep the score line the same until the end, even having a good chance of their own to change the shape of the game that was well saved by their keeper from Olly Wells' shot. The youthful Devs side played some nice football, and was a great learning experience for the youngsters, again showing a clear pathway for the young lads into adult football.

There will be an end of season awards night/piss up and there will be updates as to the winners of such awards to come, but that is it for the season for us! We will be back and potentially in a new division.

Devs 0-2 Evo

A poor display down at Brumby hall today puts our title hopes under pressure, after a fantastic unbeaten 10 games unbeaten in the league we finally fall to a very good, well drilled Evo.

We could’ve played for 10 hours today and not scored, just was not our day!

Created plenty of chances but a goal conceded in the first half put us behind and a mixup in the second half put our momentum we had built to bed, 2-0 it finished.

Unlucky, but we go again.

Devs 2-2 Mickleover Athletic (3-2 Penalties)

The Devs are into the Semi Final for the first time in their history!

Goals by
1x Sebastian Glynn (Sponsored by AB Electrical)
1x Adam Whomersley

The Devs beat higher opposition Mickleover down at Brumby hall after a huge performance under the lights, on a pitch that hampered both teams.

We started very slowly and was punished after 15 mins when a clearance fell at the feet of their skipper from 25 yards out who caught it very sweetly and it fizzed beyond Layton, 1-0 Mickleover.

This seemingly kicked the Devs into gear, who responded 7 mins before half time When Seb brought the ball down and whipped a fantastic pass into Whorm who dually obliged from the edge of the area with a lovely finish past the onrushing Mickleover keeper.

The half time talk was to start fast unlike the first half and we did this creating a lot of chances, before we was finally rewarded with a goal when Seb got his goal after being slotted through by Whorm, he finished coolly when 1v1 with the keeper, 2-1 Devs.

The Devs created a few more chances after this, namely when haywards effort was well blocked on the line, it was just not falling for us. Mickleover then came to life and had a spell of pressure which we dealt with well for the vast majority, until a corner resulted in a bullet header at the back post, 2-2. 20 Minutes remained from then in it was heavy Devs pressure.

Mickleover then went down to 10 men after their striker received a second yellow for a late challenge, after getting his first for dissent, We then had a couple of late chances with the Mickelover defence and keeper throwing themselves in front of everything, Seb also hit the post from 25 yards out with 2 mins to when everyone froze and thought the devs had won in regular time, but it clattered off the post in the only direction there was a not a devs player!
We thought it was not to be on the night, and at the full time whistle it was confirmed that it was the lottery of penalties to decide the winner of the tie.

Mickleover stepped up first, Scored and was followed by a nice Seb penalty 1-1. Then step up Layton who saved the next two penalties with fantastic saves! We scored one of the next two of our penalties through Max with a top corner penalty. 2-1 after 3. The next two was both scored with Bath slotting home for us. Mickleover had to score their 5th of the shootout to stay in the game, and Thankfully for the Devs this did not happen as their lad thought he was converting a rugby try, when his penalty went 5 yards over the bar, DEVS WIN!

Motm- Went to both Layton Willerton-Arrowsmith for his penalty shootout heroics and Whorm for his performance over 75 minutes, tenacious all game, won every header and scored/assisted, all of thsi with a knock!

Well done lads! Into the semi's we go.

Devs 12-0 JLC 780 FC

It was raining goals this afternoon down at Brumby hall as the Devs played absolutely fantastically to beat neighbours 780 12-0.

Goals:

Sebastian Glynn x5 (sponsored by AB Electrical
Olly Wells x4 (Sponsored by Steel Town Cafe)
Rossi Joe x2
Adam Bishop (Sponsored by Al & Birdys Property Services Ltd)

Too many goals to go through them all, but the devs started off strongly with some good work down the left from Bishop and Wells leading to the first 2 goals, then Olly soon found his hatrick with a superb finish into the top corner from the left to make it 3-0, Seb then grabbed himself his first goal just before the break to make it 4-0. Despite the scoreline would suggest the Devs was not fully at the races in the first half and needed to lift standards in the second half.

The rain poured down all second half, as did the goals for the devs. Seb Glynn adding 4 in the second half with the highlight of his second half quadruple being a weak footed finish from the edge of the box flying into the top corner, in a brilliant finish. Rossi was rewarded for his tenacious work all game, never stopped running and grabbed two goals, one a poachers finish and the second from a great touch taking a man on and thundering home. Bishop also got a rare goal when Seb played him in behind the last line and he finished into the bottom corner. Full time 12-0 fantastic from the Devs as we march on.

Man of the match -
Rossi and Olly share a joint man of the match, both of whom set the standards early on with their press, they was both playing on the wing, playing some excellent football getting crosses in and also both grabbing goals.

Well done lads πŸ‘
