Back to Back Challenge Cup Final Winners 😎🏆⚽️
Beckwood Rovers 4-1 Brigg Town Colts
After a strong performance up at Brigg on the 4G against a young and eager Brigg Town Colts side, we have managed to retain the Challenge Cup and become back to back winners for the first time.
The game was not at all short of goals, cards, and drama in what was an eventful night up at Brigg. We went 1-0 up in the first 20 minutes when Henry Curtis nailed a volley into the bottom corner just inside the box from a knock down after a set piece. We then doubled our lead only 5 minutes later when Liam Bennyworth also scored with a volley this time hitting the roof of the net to give us a bit of breathing room. Brigg Town had a solid period of pressure in our half with a couple of free kicks around the edge of our box and a few corners back to back but it was dealt with well by the defence and keeper George. We went into half time 2-0 up.
The boys came back out for the second half and it didn’t take long before Liam Snow was played through on goal, and took it round the keeper to slot home to make it 3-0. Just 5 minutes later Brigg Town Colts got one back to make it 3-1, and within the celebrations before we kicked off Snowy was shown a red card after an altercation whilst trying to get the ball back off a Brigg Town player to take kick off, ref admitted he did not see what happened but showed a red anyway. Down to 10 men.
Pressure was on and Brigg were now massively up for it and rightly so as we had to dig deep and work hard for the next 10 minutes until the game calmed back down again. The game did calm down and after a couple of subs we freshened back up and were looking good on the counter attack again putting the pressure back onto brigg for a good period of time. It wasn’t long before Hayden Richmond took the ball on the left wing, cutting inside and going past 2 or 3 players and then smashed it home from 20 yards in what was the goal of the game, which ultimately sealed the win and the trophy. Understandably Brigg’s heads had now dropped and we had a couple more chances very late on to add a few more but the game ended 4-1 to the Rovers. 🏆
