Back to Back Challenge Cup Final Winners 😎🏆⚽️

Beckwood Rovers 4-1 Brigg Town Colts

After a strong performance up at Brigg on the 4G against a young and eager Brigg Town Colts side, we have managed to retain the Challenge Cup and become back to back winners for the first time.

The game was not at all short of goals, cards, and drama in what was an eventful night up at Brigg. We went 1-0 up in the first 20 minutes when Henry Curtis nailed a volley into the bottom corner just inside the box from a knock down after a set piece. We then doubled our lead only 5 minutes later when Liam Bennyworth also scored with a volley this time hitting the roof of the net to give us a bit of breathing room. Brigg Town had a solid period of pressure in our half with a couple of free kicks around the edge of our box and a few corners back to back but it was dealt with well by the defence and keeper George. We went into half time 2-0 up.

The boys came back out for the second half and it didn’t take long before Liam Snow was played through on goal, and took it round the keeper to slot home to make it 3-0. Just 5 minutes later Brigg Town Colts got one back to make it 3-1, and within the celebrations before we kicked off Snowy was shown a red card after an altercation whilst trying to get the ball back off a Brigg Town player to take kick off, ref admitted he did not see what happened but showed a red anyway. Down to 10 men.

Pressure was on and Brigg were now massively up for it and rightly so as we had to dig deep and work hard for the next 10 minutes until the game calmed back down again. The game did calm down and after a couple of subs we freshened back up and were looking good on the counter attack again putting the pressure back onto brigg for a good period of time. It wasn’t long before Hayden Richmond took the ball on the left wing, cutting inside and going past 2 or 3 players and then smashed it home from 20 yards in what was the goal of the game, which ultimately sealed the win and the trophy. Understandably Brigg’s heads had now dropped and we had a couple more chances very late on to add a few more but the game ended 4-1 to the Rovers. 🏆

Beckwood Rovers 4-0 Barnetby

A double header this weekend as we went up to barnetby for two 60 minute games of league action with 6 points up for grabs.

It didn’t take long for the deadlock to be broken in the first game as Snowy rounded the keeper to slot into the empty net. Goals eventually continued in the second half in what was a comfortable game in the end with both Snowy and Kyle getting a brace each, and Rio getting one for himself too with a looping header to the back stick. Solid defence, clean sheet and 3 points secured. MOTM - Snowy

We started back at 0-0 for the second game of the afternoon and it was more of the same really as Barnetby didn’t really pose much of a threat to be honest. Goals were flowing for Snowy again as he bagged a hattrick after linking up well with Locky on the wing, who provided a couple of assists and also scored the 4th himself. Defence comfortable again with a 2nd clean sheet earned and another 3 points gained. MOTM - Benny

Comfortable afternoon overall with a solid performance across both games, 6 points secured which moves us closer to Scotter at the top of the league although they have a game in hand. But our job done and it’s onto the next game against Limestone this Saturday where we look to keep the pressure on our opponents around the top of the table.

Beckwood Rovers 2-1 Limestone

The lads were back at co-op this weekend as we faced Limestone rangers as we looked to cement our current spot of 2nd in the table, now 2 points behind Scotter although they do have 2 games in hand. Never the less we had to get our job done today against a tough limestone side who are always hard to beat.

Both our goals came within the first 5/10 minutes of the game as we opened the scoring when Hayden and Snowy combined with a 1-2 just inside the box, and Hayden poked it past the keeper into the bottom corner. Second goal was a great strike from Snowy that rifled into the top corner from just outside the box, and there was no saving that one. Went into half time 2-0 up after a decent performance.

Second half was no doubt going to be harder as Limestone pushed on to try and score, which they did after around 20 minutes with a header that looped into the far corner. Fair to say we had a few chances to make the game 3-1 but we just couldn’t find the net once more. Limestone themselves also had a couple of chances to equalise but we managed to keep them out in what was a great defensive performance from the lads. 3 points in the bag.

Beckwood Rovers 3-3 College (3-2 pens)

Good clash this afternoon in the semi final of the Challenge Cup against College. College scored first with a bit of a scruffy goal inside the box which brought the game to life. We equalised 5 minutes later when Rio converted with a Volley just inside the box. Went into half time at 1-1.

Second half was lively and It was a back and forth game as college went 2-1 up not long after the restart, but again we equalised through Hayden’s nice finish under the keeper. College then notched once again and we had to dig deep to find another equaliser. Henry was fouled inside the box and stepped up to take the penalty but the keeper came off his line too early and it had to be retaken, Danny own converted the retaken penalty. It was a cagey last 10 minutes and either team could have nicked it at the end.

The lads won the shootout 3-2 with converted pens from Locky, Rio and Henry, and the winning save from our keeper Dave 🔥

Into the final we go where we will play Brigg Town Colts on 1st May. 🏆

Beckwood Rovers 11-0 Messingham United

Today on a slick JLC Astro turf pitch Beckwood put a 10/10 performance against a lackluster Messingham side.
The boys kept the game simple keeping hold of the ball for 90 minutes coming under absolutely no threat from the opposition.
Man of the match was very hard to chose from as nearly all of the lads played to the best of their ability however it was Hayden Richmond who stood out after a hatrick from right wing who has been impressing us all from when he signed a good few weeks ago. Dominant display from everyone in all positions of the pitch.

Roll on next week where we face Scotter United in an all important league decider.

Beckwood 5-0 Butchers

Up in winterton this afternoon as we faced butchers in the league. A sloppy start from both teams for the first 15/20 and the ball was out of play more than it was in. Took us a while to get going but we opened the scoring as Rio converted from a free kick just outside the box. Goals started flowing from there as the ball broke to Snowy on the edge of the box and slammed it into bottom bins only a few minutes later. Henry made it 3 when he got onto the end of a bad back pass by the opposition defender, and slotted it into the far corner with a nice first time finish. We went into the break at 3-0 up controlling the game.

Started the second half well and it was more of the same with Beckwood mainly on top, and Snowy notched his second as he found the far bottom corner again with a good strike. The next 20 minutes were similar to the start of the game, stop start, a few strange decisions from the ref and not much football played. We added a 5th late on to top off the 3 points when Henry finished a decent squared ball from Dylan. Solid defence today and a clean sheet deserved.

3 points back to the boozer 🍻

MOTM - Mason, Henry (Ref’s motm)

A shout to last weeks game where we drew 2-2 away at limestone, painfully we were 2-0 up and fairly comfortable until the last 20 minutes when Limestone dragged two goals back to end the game as a draw.

🥶 Beckwood Rovers 3-1 Santon

The boys were out in the action this afternoon in what could of been the only game in saturday pub football round this area to not be called off. Pitch was absolutely frozen solid, but the game somehow went ahead.

Santon opened the scoring after 5/10 minutes which shook us into gear as we started dominating quickly after. We had majority of the ball in what was a horrific game to play due to the ground, we eventually equalised when a free kick was put into the box and we scored from the drop down via Alfie. Our second goal was added in the second half when Snowy converted with a header into the far corner after a decent cross from Hayden who had a great game coming off the bench. Third goal came a few minutes after when Rio spotted the keeper off his line and lobbed him with a lovely volley from distance. Fully deserved win and 3 points for the boys in a game where santon didn’t cause us too many problems other than the opener.

Believe it or not we also played last saturday on the 27th December (shambles) where we travelled to Barnetby, we won all 3 points again with a convincing 6-0 win on a pitch that had been ripped to shreds by a quad bike.

6 points over the christmas and new year period for the Rovers.

Beckwood Rovers 3-1 Butchers Arms

Three points on the road at Winterton this afternoon as we faced butchers in the league. Snowy smashed a volley in the top corner from the edge of the box after running onto a chipped through ball, only to be denied wrongly by the opposition linesman, awful decision. It wasn’t long before we opened the scoring when the ball broke to Dylan who beat his man and tucked it into bottom bins with a tidy finish. Second goal was added after Dyls shot hit the post and Henry scored the rebound. Butchers didn’t really cause us many problems in the first half and it was mainly all beckwood.

Second half was somehow slower than the first, very stop and start. Locky added our third with a decent finish from outside the box into the bottom corner to seal the three points. We conceded a typical long throw in goal in the last 20 seconds which is annoying but at the end of the day it’s 3 points and win. Onto next week where we play New Holland in the semi final of the cup.
