Jon Churchward Schools of TaeKwon do

Jon Churchward Schools of TaeKwon do Founded in January 2007 by Jon Churchward in West Denton. Taekwon-do is a modern Korean Martial Art of Self-Defence.

We teach authentic ITF based TaeKwon Do based on the teachings and philosphy of the father and founder of TaeKwon Do, General Choi Hong Hi, 9th Degree. "Tae" means to kick or smash with the foot, "Kwon" means to punch or destroy with the hand or fist and "Do" means an art or way. Taekwon-do is much more than kicking and punching. It is a form of self defence that is a complete non-violent discipline of entire body training and character building.

Please all note that due to renovation work on Emmaville Hall it will be closed on Thursdays 11th and 18th June which are the Thursdays either side of the grading
Not ideal but this is necessary for the hall to be updated and improved as many of you will be aware who were helping to raise money for them etc. For preparations for grading please make arrangements to make other classes those weeks.
Details on our other classes are on the website if anyone isn’t sure

Here are the names and timeslots attached for our rescheduled June grading weekend on 13th 14th June. Please ensure all licenses are in date and not expired, if so they will need to be renewed alongside the grading fee, everything needs to be handed in next week in class so we do not need to process licenses and payments at the grading weekend. Please put everything in an envelope clearly marked as Mr Churchward is currently off and hand in to our assistant instructors.

The Little Dragons slots may change depending on how many of our new starters join and attend the grading. Anyone who cannot make the grading on the given timeslot or does not feel ready should notify us so we can remove them and re arrange the slots if required as soon as possible.

Grading fees are £35 for dragons and junior belts up to Green tag, £40 for green belts and above. License renewals are £30.

Grading is at Emmaville Hall, Ryton starting at the correct allotted timeslots. In line with previous gradings, time keeping is important and any students late will not be allowed to grade so please ensure you are there early enough to prepare and warm up prior to the grading time. Please note the different timeslots to normal on Saturday as we can’t use the hall until after 1430 so first grading is 1500.

There maybe a few students who haven’t reached the required standard as yet so have not been included to allow them further time to prepare for the next grading weekend.

We also realise that they are a few students who intended on competing on the same day in Dundee at the MightyFist Open but may have been due to grade. Mr Churchward’s advise would be to go to the competition and take the grading on the next weekend which is only September anyway.

Please also be aware that grading recognitions will be completed on Mr Churchward’s return which will be likely a week after the grading. Results will be put online after the grading and students will be able to learn new patterns etc but they will revive new belts and certificates etc a week or so later.

Any queries please contact Mr Churchward asap to discuss

Information on next Sundays Technical seminar. This is essential training for all levels of belt but we do expect green belts and above to attend at least one per year or they will have to extend grading times to allow then to catch up.
The sessions are now set up on HEJA so please book in so we can plan ahead. Can all blackbelts and black tags also confirm they are available to attend and assist in the first 4 hours.

Fee is £15 per person and should be paid in advance this week coming please. Ideally paid in cash in an envelope during class so we can list attendees. We have a list of attendees from the previous one also so we can see who is attending.

Not to be missed!!!!!!!!!!!!

This weekend on Saturday we have blackbelt training for all red and black belts from 0930-1130 at excelsior academy then we have our May competition training session from 1130 to potentially 1530 depending on numbers booked in.
Each session costs £10 and we ask everyone to update our Heja app on attendance or non attendance so we can plan ahead.
At the end of this month we are attending the NBA charity competition event at Kenton School with all monies raised going to St Oswald’s Charity, we have attached the poster.
We would like everyone to come and help with this event and we will send out an e mail from Mr Telford with some points on how you can all help the event and help them to raise a large donation .
With this in mind this Saturday would be the last squad training session available for those who’d like to attend the competition.
We also have the MightyFist Open Championships coming up in Dundee on Saturday 13th June.
We will be sending out a Google doc form for the May competition for all entries to be completed on shortly but we need a full list of names for both competitions by this Saturday.
