On Saturday 16th September the Torrington U15 Girls kicked off there 2023/24 season with there first game at home against Fremington Foxes. The final result was 1-1 with great football played by both teams.
In the first 10 mins the greens went ahead with Jess Alford going in 1 on 1 with the keeper and squeezing it past. The rest of the first half the Greens kept creating chance after chance but unfortunately couldnt put them away. They came in at half time 1-0 up and were easily the stronger side. They frustrated Fremington by not letting them create many chances.
Second half both teams came out strong. 15 mins into the half Fremington equalized with one of the few chances they had. They caught the back line of the Greens out on a quick counter attack. Again the same as the first half Torrington were creating chance after chance but yet again could not get the ball in the net. Shots were going wide and the opposing keeper made it very difficult for them by making great saves. Into the last 10 mins both teams were starting to look very fatigued. Torrington girls gave it everything with multiple chances to get that winning goal but it was just one of those days.
An incredible game of football for the first game of the new season. Lots of positives to take from the game and build on for the rest of the season which is shaping up to be a very competitive one. To top it off even without being able to get that winning goal and only coming away with the one point all the girls enjoyed themselves and came off the pitch with a smile on there faces.
Not a bad result for a season opener against one of the stronger sides in the league.
