Cleveland Divers Snorkel Group managed to explore Redcar and Runswick Bay during August. We had a couple of people doing there first ever UK sea snorkels, we completed a Snorkel Biodiversity survey with the Tees River Trust and managed to find lots of beautiful North Sea wildlife. On the negative side we also noted the arrival of the plastic nurdles from the Tyne.

Fun Week, we had the boat out last weekend diving the scars, (bouncy ride back) but found some critters, we were snorkelling at Redcar on the spring low tides, nice big flattie and lots of crabs and we had a nice mid-week evening snorkelling/ dive at Runswick Bay, finishing with a pint in the Royal Hotel.

Fun weekend diving and snorkelling.
We joined the South Bay's Grand day out on Saturday exploring the Scars, and were out diving around the end of the South Gare on Sunday, and we also had our Snorkelers exploring the low tides as well over the weekend.
Congratulations to Peter completing his Sports Diver and to Clare who completed her first Ocean dive and an Ocean Snorkel.

The Cleveland Divers Snorkel Group was a bit on and off in July, with beaches being closed for pollution and the Northernly winds mucking up the visibility. We tried to get out a bit in July taking advantages of breaks in the weather. Things have improved towards the end of the month and the "Buck Moon" tides gave a good chance to explore. We were doing our first Snorkel Surveys with the Tees River Trust Seagrass Project this week.
Laying a transit line and recording any life we found on the transits, great morning, interesting stuff, you see lots when you have to focus even on sand. Lots of sand eels but super fast.

Volunteers from Cleveland Diver spent two days helping the Tees River Trust to plant their Seagrass "pasties" as part of their Seagrass Project.
We were a bit nervous as the Trust had spent 4 months nursing and growing the sea grass. But it was an interesting and fascinating couple of days. We hope to further assist the Trust project by continuing to monitor the sea grass by snorkel over the next few months.

The Cleveland Divers Snorkel Group have been out exploring the Redcar coast by during June. Lots of interesting and wonderful critters at the Gare and on the Scars.
We are looking forward to doing a bit more during July, snorkelling is a great way to explore our wonderful coast, as soon as its safe and the bathing restrictions are lifted we will be back out.
