Roosters Masters – Blackpool Festival 2026
What a weekend for the Salford City Roosters Masters in Blackpool — two cracking games against Aldershot & Fleet and Bassetlaw, played in top spirit.
🔴 Dick of the Day
A historic moment… our first ever Roosters Masters Dick of the Day goes to Wildy.
Getting over the try line wasn’t enough — he decided to try and pass instead of grounding it.
Terrible pass. Terrible choice.
Outstanding entertainment.
A moment we’ll be laughing about for years.
🔴 Player of the Tournament
Couldn’t give it to myself, so the honour goes to Danny Williams — fully deserved.
Coming back from injury, putting in the graft at training, and delivering on game day.
Top attitude, top performance.
Still gutted I wasn’t on that train to hear the full story of trotter and beans, but that mystery will reveal itself one day.
🔴 Special Mentions
- Mark Buckley – brilliant to see him back in Masters rugby. Been a while, but he slotted straight back in.
- Deane Gyves – debut weekend and you fit in 100%. Great to have you out there, mate. Plenty more games ahead.
- Smithy – the ever‑present engine in the pack. Muscle when we need it, and hands like a god when it matters. A proper cornerstone of the Masters side.
- The whole squad – every single player put in a shift. From the forwards laying the platform to the backs finishing the moves, everyone worked for each other. The effort, the graft, the togetherness… that’s what Masters rugby is all about, and the Roosters showed it in full.
We’ve only worked on our structure for a few days, but it’s already showing on the pitch.
🔴 Standout moment - Paul “Road Runner” Masterson’s full‑length set‑piece try
A perfectly executed scrum move, straight off the training paddock. Paul hit the line at pace, carved through, and went almost the full length to score. A class finish and a moment that summed up the day.
🔴 Most controversial moment of the day.
Was the debate of who did the big hit.. was it smithy or was it Billy... you decide
