Ashdon United 4-5 Cambridge Ambassadors

A 9 goal thriller, just what you expect from a Saturday grassroots football game.

Cambridge started the game well and went onto score early to make the game 1-0 inside the first 12 minutes, Ashdon replied quick and made it 1-1 with a great finish outside the box from Leo Nash who got his first goal of the season, Cambridge then went up to the other end a few minutes later to make it 2-1, Ashdons heads did not drop at this point when they fired back with a training ground corner set piece ball at the back post for Joe Kelleher to score his first goal of the season to make the game 2-2, once again not long after Cambridge were back ahead with the Ashdon defence falling asleep and just letting their striker run through on goal to make it 3-2, if you didn’t think this half could get any crazier, well it did Leo Nash once again involved, pressing winning the ball and playing it to Garry was through on goal and tried to chip the keeper, didn’t manager to, the ball came back put to him and on his left foot he finished it off to make it 3-3.

Half time result 3-3.

The second half couldn’t be as good as the first right? Thats where you are wrong, Ashdon came out looking to take charge and control or the result for the first time in the game and that’s exactly what they done, okello slots it in from outside the box in the left bottom corner to make it 4-3 to the mighty Ashdon, the lads were in charge of the game when Cambridge got one lucky break to make it 4-4, tensions were rising on the bench for Ashdon, to the point the referee covering the game due to there not being an FA Appointed ref, stormed off the pitch in a hissy fit, that knocked ashdons confidence down and straight after the ball was back in play Cambridge made it 5-4! Yes 5-4 9 goals in 75 minutes. Ashdon were pushing and pushing counter after counter, but just could not find the net, game finished 4-5 to Cambridge Ambassadors.

We thank Cambridge for an unreal game and we wish the best of luck for the rest of the season, we will see them away in February time.

After a weekend off football, Ashdon United are back this Saturday with a 3pm kick off against yet again A new team in the league, Cambridge Ambassadors 3pm kick off.

The lads have been working hard since the defeat to Cherry Hinton, with A new goalkeeper signed and the boys getting more used to the new formation the Gaffer has put in place, this weekend should be A game that we get our first 3 points to kick start our season.

Ashdon United 2-3 Cherry Hinton.

The game started with 2 quick goals from the cherry hinton side, the boys were adapting to a new formation set up by the gaffer, after about 20 minutes the boys started to settle into the game, creating chances and being the better team with the ball and off the ball. Half time came and Ashdon were 2-0 down.

Second half started with another Cherry Hinton goal which made it 3-0. Keeper was day dreaming and forgot about the player running at him, after that, Ashdon got straight back into how they finished the first half, creating chances after chances pressing for a goal back, that goal came from a free kick inside their own half, beautiful ball played to the right edge of the box, where Carlos played a first time volley cross into the box with Okello heading the ball past the keeper, Ashdon didn’t stop there with Wesley running at defenders time after time, he snuck in the box and got taken down by a Cherry Hinton defender which he then converted the penalty into the bottom left corner. Ashdon kept going snd creating chances but after an elbow to the mouth of Carlos he lost his head and got himself a straight read, ruining Ashdons chances of an equaliser.

Tough defeat as we was the better team throughout 70 minutes of the game, but we have got a weekend off next week which the boys will rest up and get ready to go again at home against Cambridge ambassadors at home again.

I don’t like to give man of the match when in defeat. But okello was just outstanding in the middle, showing us that we have got ourselves our very own Ngolo Kante.

Today the boys played Thurlow Reserves who play in 3A league above us, the boys put in a great shift and great effort, the ashdon boys started the game really well, until a volley from the halfway line caught out the keeper who slapped the ball into his own net.
The boys lifted their heads and carried on and battled in every part of the pitch. Half time result was 1-0 to Thurlow, after a team talk and some tweaks in the system the boys went out and carried on how they was in the first half. Battled and worked hard, a quick counter attack started from the Ashdon goalkeeper, where Wesley & Carlos combined well together with Carlos scoring a nice goal from out of the box.

FULL THME RESULT: Thurlow reserves 1-1 Ashdon United.
