Fun and creativity with some competition are key for success:
To ensure that ALL young athletes feel excited for every session, fun is a major ingredient coaches need to add and in large amounts.
As a coach/manager, knowing that your participants are possibly some what younger than you and knowing what they find “fun” is a tough nut to crack, that being said you need to be enthusiastic and engaging as possible.
Its likely that as an adult you may remember a old school teacher or coach from years gone by who was slightly more eccentric. They stick in your memory because of the colourful ways they challenged you, communicating knowledge and developing your skills in the process.
Enthusiasm is infectious and silly can often be a good thing. It allows participants to broaden their imagination and enjoy the session even more.
All that being said, some competition is a healthy way to boost the fun factor especially in youth football. Introduce games into every aspect of your coaching session and participants will strive to match their team mates and improve themself in the process.
