On Wednesday 2nd September, nine HAC athletes turned up at the Watford Open. Of those, four members of Team Rog were keen to squeeze in a few end-of-season races, as the team headed to the Watford Open.
After the recent warmer temperatures, conditions were a little different tonight, with temperatures dropping slightly, light drizzle and a breeze. Conditions were pretty good and all four athletes stepped up and raced brilliantly!
First up was Kirsty, who once again showed the determination that has become a real feature of her training and racing. Giving 100% in training and on race day, she put together another strong 800m, stopping the clock at 2:38.50 — just off her PB. Another race, another valuable bit of experience, and another reminder that this girl is one determined cookie!🍪
Next was Emma, who went into her race with a clear plan: go out hard and see how long she could hold on. And that’s exactly what she did! She looked incredibly strong throughout and held on to record a 2:25.00 PB. A very impressive performance and a great way to execute the race plan👏
Third up was Clive, who has learned from experience that the opening 200m at Watford can be a little too lively! Rather than getting caught up in the early fast pace, Clive once again opted to run from the back, settle into his rhythm and then start picking people off as the race progressed. The tactic worked perfectly, helping him come through strongly and record a season’s best of 2:21.10💪
Finally came Ahmad, who ran a very mature and tactically great race. Starting towards the back, he kept himself out of trouble before gradually moving through the field, particularly down the straights. The strategy worked brilliantly, earning him a new PB of 2:05.79 — and, even better, he absolutely smashed the season goal he had set for himself!🎯
