🔴Redhouse Allstars - Brereton Social Raptors🔵
Another fantastic result today!!!
The team we played against was a very good side. They played the ball around the way we like to, but they were aggressive and fast to react as well!
We had to battle, dig deep, and soak up some pressure in the first half.
We made it to half-time 1–0 up, but being 100 percent honest, we were probably the slightly second-best team.
What a goal by Jack to give us the lead! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a ball hit so well in grassroots football!
At half-time we spoke to the team, changed a few things, and asked the players to react quicker and close them down.
We did exactly that, and we were probably the slightly better team in the second half.
We conceded the equaliser with a mix-up at the back, but in the past we might have dropped our heads. Not now. The new attitude is: pick our heads up and go again!
Joe calmly slotted in our second to regain the lead, after a great through ball from Sparky.
From there, we controlled the match and didn’t really give away any more chances.
Bob secured what we thought was our third goal and celebrated with a wonderful knee slide — only for it to be ruled out for offside, which I don’t think had any chance of actually being offside!
The back four were solid today, and they had to be. Rhys and Samuel were rock solid, winning everything. Sparky, Alfie, and Joe did their jobs and more.
Daisy, Xander, and Bobby were solid in midfield. We played a new formation today — because the pitch was so big — and decided to play the three of them in a triangle in the centre. Some of the passing between the three of them was great.
Max H, Travis, Max W, and Amico were our wide players, running up and down that massive pitch and giving us the width we needed. Max H is having the season of his life, and Travis has been superb for the past two games — hopefully it continues!
Amico has been ill for seven days, so he struggled for energy today, but he gave us everything he had.
Max W unfortunately got injured early in the second half, which affected him, but he was getting really stuck in and running hard.
Jack, Kye, and Joe up front gave us the out ball. They held it up brilliantly and played us out into dangerous positions.
Fin and Ben made fantastic saves, and their talking and communication were immense. They were there when we needed them.
That is the end of our first league season in the Walsall League.
We have finished in 4th place, which is brilliant when you think about the start we had.
It took us a few weeks to get to grips with the league, as it was more physical than what we were used to.
I think it’s a brilliant league and so much better organised than Mid Staffs.
We now have a few friendlies lined up, which will help create the new league division that starts in a few weeks.
I have high hopes of competing at the top of the division — no matter which division the league puts us in!
Congrats to all Raptors. It’s been a really enjoyable season so far — we’ve won 4 out of our last 5 games!
Roll on next week!!
