🏆ANNUAL AWARDS NIGHT
ACTIVE SCHOOLS VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR

This year our Active Schools Aberdeenshire Volunteer of the Year Award was won by Jonathan Taylor 👏🏼

Jonathan Taylor, known to many as Johnny, began volunteering in early 2023 to support and grow basketball within the Inverurie school Cluster. What started as helping to run a primary school club quickly became a lasting commitment to creating opportunities for young people to be active and involved in sport.

Over the past two and a half years, Johnny has built a thriving basketball programme at Strathburn Primary, regularly entering teams into the Kenny Gibb Memorial Basketball Festival. In addition to this he also supports the girls’ and secondary sessions, fitting all this in around work and family life. Several of the players Jonny has coached have now progressed into club participation which is the long-term aim of any Active Schools programme. 🥳

Johnny’s dedication, enthusiasm and selflessness have made a genuine difference to pupils, families and the wider community, his passion for the sport and ensuring young people have the opportunity to take part makes him a true role model for others, a perfect example of how volunteers make a huge difference in their local community, and a deserving candidate as a finalist for this year’s award.

Congratulations for your recognition for all your hard work Jonathan ✨

🏆ANNUAL AWARDS NIGHT
TEAM OF THE YEAR

This year, our Team of the Year Award was sponsored by Satori Martial Arts Grampian and was deservedly won by Cornhill Tug o war team 👏🏼

Cornhill tug of war team had a very successful 2025 season. The team consists for around 30 members who train together 2-3 times a week in Cornhill, Banffshire. They compete within the ladies, men’s and mixed categories.

There are 10 senior competitions within the Scottish Nationals Championships and in 2025 the Cornhill team won 9 gold medals and 1 silver medal. This gave the team the right to represent Scotland at the Worlds Championships which was held in Nottingham, England.

Cornhill were competing in the ladies 500kg, ladies 540kg, men’s 600kg and mixed 580kg. Each of these teams did well in their competitions but most notable was the ladies 500kg team who finished in 4th place. At their last World Championships, the ladies came second last, so this was an amazing move up the World rankings in 2025. 💪🏼

The Cornhill U23 mixed team won bronze at the 2025 Scottish National Championships.

The clubs’ younger members are part of the Strathbogie Young Farmers Club, and they competed in the SAYFC 2025 National Tug of War final at the Royal Highland Show. The ladies won their competition and the boys placed 3rd.✨

All in all, a fantastic 2025 season for Cornhill Tug of War Team.

Congratulations to Cornhill Tug of War team for your success and thanks to Satori Martial Arts Grampian for your longstanding sponsorship 🥳

🏆ANNUAL AWARDS NIGHT
SERVICE TO SPORT AWARD

Next up is our Service to Sport Award. Scottish ClubSport teamed up with Forsyths with the ambition to provide recognition to volunteers in Scotland through the Scottish ClubSport Service to Sport award – sponsored by Forsyths – an award that has been delivered across Scotland for many years.

Through this partnership between Forsyths and Scottish ClubSport, the Service to Sport award seeks to recognise a long-standing and dedicated volunteer. A stipulation of this award is that the recipient must have provided service to community and club sport for over 15 years. ✨

🥁 And your winner this year is…. Dianne Beagrie!

Dianne Beagrie has dedicated her life to sport, and her service continues to transform opportunities in Peterhead.

Dianne has been involved in sport throughout her life, both as a competitor and a coach. She has delivered sessions in gymnastics, swimming, and disability trampolining, and has volunteered for many years supporting her local football clubs as a football mum.

This lifelong passion and experience naturally led to her role as Chair of Peterhead Area Community Trust (PACT) and the Peterhead Community Sport Hub. Peterhead is one of Scotland's highest SIMD areas, where opportunities for participation can be limited. Dianne has been instrumental in breaking down these barriers. 👏🏼

Alongside Team PACT, she has led funding applications that have delivered inclusive play equipment, a multi-use games area, as well as a new pump track which is free for the community to use, providing safe, engaging spaces in an area where such opportunities were previously scarce.

Her approach is always person-centred. In 2023, through the sports hub, she led a project surveying carers to understand barriers to physical activity, ensuring that resulting programmes were inclusive and accessible for everyone.🌟

Dianne combines strategic leadership with hands-on commitment. She volunteers at events, supports clubs practically, and is always available to offer advice and encouragement. While PACT is a team, Dianne's vision, experience, and inclusive leadership have been the driving force behind its successes.

Through decades of participation, coaching, and volunteering, Dianne has strengthened local clubs, expanded opportunities, and inspired others to give their time. Her dedication has allowed sport in Peterhead to be more accessible, sustainable, and welcoming, leaving a lasting legacy.

Congratulations on all your years of achievements Dianne - you are an inspiration to all and have truly helped change the lives of so many 👏🏼 And thank you to Scottish ClubSport - SALSC and Forsyths Ltd for sponsoring this award.

🏆ANNUAL AWARDS NIGHT
COACH OF THE YEAR

Our next award is our Coach of the Year Award, kindly sponsored by Masson Glennie. This year our winner was from Tug of War… Dave McKenzie 👏🏼

David McKenzie is head coach for the Cornhill Tug of War team. He supports pullers by helping them learn the best techniques, gives advice on areas of improvement and the best ways to work on fitness. He gives up endless hours of his own time analysing videos of other teams to work out strategies enabling our teams to compete against the best in the World. This amount of dedication as a coach has led to a very successful 2025 for Cornhill Tug of War 💪🏼

Dave coached the local young farmer team to win the ladies national final at the 2025 Royal Highland Show.

He recently formed a Cornhill U23 mixed team. The team competed at the 2025 mixed Scottish national championships earning a National bronze medal.

Dave has supported teams to compete in all senior and under 23 Nationals Championships and they have won 9 out of 10 senior Nationals titles in 2025.

He coached the Cornhill senior ladies’ team to a fantastic 4th place at the 2025 World Championship. This was an amazing achievement for the team after coming second last in 2023 but it's thanks to the timeless hours Dave dedicates to the team.

He works hard to promote Tug of War throughout Scotland and has pushed and helped to introduce more competitive opportunities for ladies at some of the Highland Games with the 2025 Aberdeen Highland Games holding their first ladies’ competition.✨

Going way beyond coaching, Dave built a fantastic training facility in his shed which allows the team to train all year round. Dave always ensure training is set up and can adapt training to help athletes to work on different aspects of the sport. He also ensures the teams kit is correct throughout the season by mending pullers boots and ensure they have tacky for their hands.

Dave gives athletes the support and belief to achieve their aims.

Congratulations on receiving well deserved recognition Dave and thanks again to Masson Glennie for your continued support 🥳

🏆ANNUAL AWARDS NIGHT
FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

Next up is our Adult Female Athlete of the Year sponsored by our longstanding sponsors John Bell Pipeline. This year our fantastic winner was Carole Munro 👏🏼

At 70 years old, Carole—fondly known as "Super Gran"—has proven that age is just a number. Representing Scotland, she competed in the gruelling Hyrox World Championships in Chicago in June 2025, and emerged victorious in a time of 1:58:55, earning Bronze in her age group (70-74). A keen kayaker and regular sea swimmer, Carole’s dedication to fitness is unmatched. ✨

Carole's journey isn’t just about her personal triumphs; she has become an inspiring figure, especially to women. She has shown that with the right mindset and support, anything is possible, regardless of age. As she shares, “I’m quite competitive,” and her unrelenting spirit is proof that challenges are meant to be embraced.
With three sons, four grandchildren, and countless fans, Carole plans to continue competing in Hyrox events, with a goal of participating until she turns 76—when she hopes to compete alongside her granddaughter. 💪🏼

Her message? “I’m not only doing this competition for myself, but to inspire as many people as possible to take that first step, say ‘yes’ more often, and just get moving. It doesn’t have to be extreme—whether it’s a jog, a walk around the block, or even a local Parkrun—just do it and do it now.”

Hyrox, a hybrid fitness sport, alternates between 1km runs and functional workout stations—totalling 8km of running and 8 different exercises including ski erg, sled push and pull, rowing, farmer’s carry, sandbag lunges, wall balls, and burpees. Each station is standardized, allowing participants to compare their times globally and compete in world championships.

Carole’s dedication, resilience, and passion continue to inspire many, proving that no matter your age, it’s never too late to reach for your goals.🌟

Congratulations Carole, you are an inspiration to all! And thanks again to John Bell Pipeline for your continued support 🥳

🏆ANNUAL AWARDS NIGHT
CLUB OF THE YEAR

This year our Club of the Year Award was sponsored by returning sponsors Steadfast Scotland and was won by Aboyne Gymnastics & Trampoline Club 🤸🏼‍♀️🤸🏻‍♂️

Aboyne Gymnastics & Trampoline Club demonstrates how a community-led club can deliver high-quality, inclusive sport while planning responsibly for long-term sustainability.

In 2025, the club increased participation, strengthened its coaching workforce, expanded inclusive provision through free ASN sessions, and progressed plans for a new dedicated facility to meet clear local demand. 👏🏼

Through strong governance, safeguarding, and reinvestment of resources, AGTC has become a valued and growing community asset, improving access to gymnastics for children and families across Deeside.

They have increased weekly participation to over 200 children, delivering regular gymnastics sessions across Aboyne and Banchory while maintaining safe coaching ratios, high quality sessions and a strong safeguarding culture but demand for gymnastics in the area remains high.

They developed the club's future workforce, supporting three 16+ young people through Level 1 and Level 2 coaching pathways and increased the number of trained Level 1 helper candidates to seven.

In 2025, AGTC delivered free gymnastics provision in partnership with Banchory Primary School, offering children with additional support needs the opportunity to participate in a safe, structured environment removing financial barriers and supporting equal access to sport. This reflects the club's commitment to reducing barriers to participation and developing inclusive opportunities.

The club has delivered clear participation and performance pathways, providing structured opportunities from preschool (18 months) through recreational, pathway, and competitive gymnastics for children of all abilities.✨

In response to extensive waiting lists and limited local facilities, the club progressed plans for a new dedicated gymnastics facility in Banchory, demonstrating the club's commitment to long-term sustainability, strong leadership, forward planning, and a clear focus on meeting community need.

As a registered Scottish charity, AGTC reinvests all income into coaching, equipment, and facilities. We believe the club's governance, safeguarding standards, and community-led ethos make it a deserving winner for Club of the Year.

Thank you once again to Steadfast Scotland for your support and congratulations to Aboyne Gymnastics & Trampoline Club for all your excellent work and receiving the recognition you deserve 🥳
