Final game of the season for the lads this morning, knowing a win would likely secure a top 2 spot.

In the absence of Craig & Geoff, who were off losing games of football of their own, Calum Dearden and Craig Andrews took the reins.

By all reports the lads played well and two goals from Franky Markham secured the game. He’s really on top of his game at the minute and has had a great end of the season.

Calum said β€œThe lads did brilliant today did what I asked of them at half time which was to dig in and play for each other. Proud of them all.”

A return to our home ground this week to host Worksop SJR in our penultimate league game.

The visitors started strongest and saw an early effort rebound off the post.

Swinton when ahead when Grayson Billups lashed home from a Henry Cornwall corner.

Swinton had to fight and battle to keep Worksop at bay, and were rewarded with goal in the second half from Franky Markham who carried the ball on one of his trademark runs before smashing in the top corner, and Frankie Race played in by Ben License finished well.

Worksop got a goal their play and effort deserved to finish the game

A return to Hoyland for the lads today, this time in the cup.

The home side set off well and deservedly got their noses in front with a great strike from 20 yards.

Swinton adapted shape a little bit and began to find their way a bit more, an equalised just after half time, a great Ben License finish.

The game was in balance but two unfortunate goals gave Hoyland the lead which they extended late on.

So the cup dream ends this season.

A mid-day away game at Birdwell for the lads today.

Trying an adjusted formation Spartans started slowly but grew into the game from 10 minutes onwards.

Frankie Race pounced on a loose ball 30 yards from a goal and after a couple of touches out of his feet slammed the ball home.

Grayson Billups, deputising in goal, tipped a Birdwell free kick over the bar to ensure that the 1-0 lead took us into half time.

Facing against the wind in the second, Spartans again took some time to adjust. Birdwell equalised in that period, the ball finding its way onto the new past the unlucky Grayson.

Spartans came back into it, playing neat football and got their reward when a great flowing move eventually ended with Ben License crossing to Jayce Beckett who finished with aplomb.

It stayed that way until the final minutes, Birdwell seeing some pressure converting into goals to sn**ch the game.

It had been a great game and the best footballing performance for some weeks. It was hard not to feel for the lads.

Spartans hosted Worksop this morning looking to get back to winning ways.

A lovely George Whittingham strike placed in the bottom corner was enough to settle the game.

There was little other action of note in a tight scrappy affair.

A trip to Hoyland, a blustery early start for Swinton this morning.

Having had the first chance of the game through Ben, Swinton found themselves on the back foot against a team playing attractive football. Hoyland went 1-0 up and that’s how it stayed at half time.

Ben scored a cracking equaliser early in the second half, and kicking with the wind and down a slope in the second half ought to really have kicked on.

The hosts got through this period of pressure though and deservedly took the spoils with 3 second half goals.

Another home game against Dronfield this morning, bringing together two teams with 100% records in the second part of the season.

Swinton started strongly and could / should have had the lead when the crossbar was called into action twice in the same attack. The second shot looked in but it wasn’t given and the lads got a lesson in playing to the whistle as the loose ball was eventually cleared.

Dronfield then took over, showing themselves to be strong opponents. Half time was needed.

For the first 20 minutes of the second half Swinton came right into it and started to play some good stuff.

Ben License curled a free kick in off the bar, this time there was no doubt it had crossed the line.

Ben then played in Max Gale who slotted home for a quick fire second.

With 10 minutes to go Dronfield scored from the spot, setting the scene for a tense finish.

On balance, the away side can feel unfortunate not to have taken something from the game, but the team are finding a habit of digging in during tight games. A good habit to have.

In a reversed fixture Swinton U11s hosted Porter for a high noon showdown of familiar foes.

A summary of the action is brought to you by Geoffrey Cornwall:
β€œswinton started well on front foot created 2 or 3 good opportunities with good combo play, but havin failed to capitalise conceded from a breakaway, got back into it when jayce and jack combined well and max gale swooped on jacks cross to knock into net, evens rest of half, fell behind last kick not reactin to loose ball from corner and lad nets from close in. 2nd half downhill and wind at backs very dominant, ben equalised curler from edge box, well on top, winner from strong play on right by jack crossed in first effort blocked fell to scott to knock in. Strong rest of game, 2 or 3 one on ones, keeper saved em all. Great teamwork, well deserved win in end.”

Calum Dearden added β€œYou would have been proud of them today completely different game from when we played them last.”
