Ability Counts Cup

First Game

Blues 1 Vs Glossop 0

First game of the day against a good Glossop side with the games only being 12minutes long I told the lads we need to come out of the blocks fast and that we did scoring a great team goal starting from Sophie at the back going into defence to Mike and the linked up with Connor and then a great finish from Tom . After that it was end to end for the rest of the game .

Player of the match : Mike

Game 2

Blues 0 v Doncaster Titans 0

A great game of football end to end stuff , with both teams matching each other . Blues very unlucky but didn’t take our chances. But from the game there was a lot of good defensive football from our team.

Player of the Match: Thorpey

Game 3

Blues 3 v Mansfield 0

I spoke to the team after the Doncaster game showing them the things they could improve on . Within first few minutes we could tell they had listened grabbing a quick goal through a great flick from Andy Stanley our captain and following it up with a great finish . Quickly after we had our second goal with another great team goal coming from back to front with lots of 1-2s for Keiron to finish a brilliant goal . Keiron then become the provider with passing a great ball through for Connor to finish .

Game 4

Blues 2 v Derek Dooley 0

Going into the final game we was on the same points as Doncaster and knew we needed a point or a win . After a few words from the captain Andy the team came straight out the blocks firing with a great individual run from Connor with 2 minutes left connor then added final goal to finish the tournament off and win our division .

I’d like to say how really proud I am of the team they have come on so much in a short time and can’t wait to carry on with them next season

Match Report: Aston Swallownest 3-1 Woodhouse

Following a goalless draw in the previous meeting, Aston Swallownest came into this friendly with unfinished business—and they delivered. Despite not capitalising on opportunities for the best parts of the game, the squad showed that the best teams find a way to win regardless of performance.

The match started evenly, with both sides creating chances and testing each other’s defences. Woodhouse were first to strike, capitalising on a lapse to take the lead. But Aston responded swiftly, with Carly finishing off a well-worked move to level the game at 1-1 going into half time.

The second half saw Aston grow into the game. A brilliant solo effort from Charlotte—holding up the ball and driving forward—put the team ahead, slotting the ball beautifully into the bottom corner. Despite a number of missed opportunities and some excellent saves from the Woodhouse keeper, Aston kept pressing.

Carly, putting in a player-of-the-match performance with relentless energy and sharp movement, sealed the win late on with her second goal of the night, making it 3-1 and putting the result beyond doubt.

There were great moments of link-up play throughout—particularly between Carly, Charlotte, and Sophie—and while some chances went begging, the intent and effort were clear.

Still unbeaten, the team continues to show resilience and togetherness. A solid result, more minutes in the tank for the squad, and plenty to be proud of.

Player of the Match: Carly – relentless work rate, two well-taken goals, and a constant threat throughout.

Aston then went 2-0 through Scott Cother again.

Futures kept battling and managed to pull 1 goal back with 1 minute left to go.

The final score ended 2-1.

This win means Aston Swallownest Inclusion Red win the Division 1 title with 1 game to go and are 7 points clear at the top.

Match Report: Aston 0 - 0 Woodhouse

A spirited and hard-fought friendly match ended in a goalless draw between Aston and Woodhouse, with both teams showcasing some excellent moments of play despite the lack of goals.

The match was a great opportunity for all players to get valuable game time, with a special focus on those returning from injuries or those who hadn't featured as much recently. The aim was clear: maintain the momentum we've built throughout the season, enjoy the game, and continue to play with the same intensity and commitment we've shown in previous matches. The emphasis was on supporting one another and keeping up communication, which remained strong throughout the match.

Both teams struggled to break the deadlock, but there were some impressive individual performances and glimpses of quality link-up play. The game was often played at a fast pace, with Aston’s passing at times looking sharp and well-constructed, reflecting the hard work put in during training. The tiny goals made it difficult to find the back of the net, but that didn’t stop the team from pushing forward and trying to create chances. The second half saw Aston improve significantly, with the team asserting more control and dictating the tempo of the game. The players worked hard for each other and certainly deserved a win, even if the scoreline didn’t reflect their efforts.

It was particularly great to see players who hadn’t had as many minutes on the pitch in recent games getting the opportunity to play. Their performances tonight were a testament to the squad’s depth, and everyone should be proud of their contribution.

In the end, it was a game of two halves, and while the final score was 0-0, Aston’s performance in the second half was certainly more dominant, showing the progress made throughout the season.

Player of the match Lauren B, for her performance in goal. She made crucial saves, demonstrating great composure. This should be a huge confidence boost for her moving forward.

Up the Aston Swallownest! Well done, everyone!

Aston Swallownest Blues 1 - 0 City Knights

On a beautiful sunny day, the Blues faced a tough challenge, fielding only seven players. Despite the odds, the team showed incredible determination. We got off to a great start with a superb strike from Connor, giving us an early lead. As the game wore on, fatigue set in, but the desire to defend never wavered. While the football might not have been the prettiest, the team held strong and saw the game through. Special mention to our keeper, who made some fantastic saves to keep the City Knights at bay.

A hard-fought win, but a win nonetheless.

Up the Aston Swallownest!

Aston Swallownest Men’s Blue 2 Rotherham United Trust 9

A difficult first half against a strong and powerful team, who played some great football and capitalised on a poor first half performance.

The boys regrouped in the second half, showing more passion and fight. Almost winning the second half, but Rotherham scored with the final kick of the game.

The praise goes to Rotherham, who were the better team in all areas.

We go into the final game of the season, hoping for a better performance and scoreline.

Aston 5-1 Charnock Ridgeway Women

Aston put on another brilliant display of teamwork, skill, and determination as they secured a fantastic 5-1 win over Charnock Ridgeway Women. Despite key absences forcing players into new positions, the togetherness of the squad was on full display, and the link-up play between teammates was nothing short of magical.

From the first whistle, Aston asserted their dominance, with Carly dazzling on the left wing. Her brilliant footwork saw her weave through defenders and slot home the opener, making it 1-0. The pressure continued, and a slick one-two between Dawn and Carly led to a second goal, extending Aston’s lead to 2-0.
Charnock showed determination, pressing forward and earning a penalty, which they converted to bring the game back to 2-1. But Aston remained unfazed, ramping up their attacking efforts. The combination of Carly, Sam, Dawn, and Ellie created wave after wave of goal-scoring opportunities, with Beth leading the line superbly—holding up play, linking passes, and working tirelessly for the team.

Their relentless pressure paid off once again, as Dawn displayed outstanding strength to hold off defenders and fire home Aston’s third, restoring the two-goal cushion at 3-1.

At the back, Lizzy was rock-solid in defence continuing to display resilience and strength while Naomi, stepping into goal for the first half, made crucial saves to keep the opposition at bay.

At halftime, Captain Sam took over goalkeeping duties, allowing Naomi to slot into defence. The second half saw Charnock continue to push, but Aston held firm, showing composure and discipline. Ellie’s energy was infectious as she battled tirelessly, winning the ball and breaking up play. Beth, who had been a powerhouse up front, kept her cool in a one-on-one situation and calmly slotted home Aston’s fourth goal.

With confidence soaring, Carly produced a moment of pure magic—turning between two defenders and driving forward to complete her hat-trick with a clinical finish, making it 5-1.

With Charnock bringing on a sixth player under the fair play rule, Aston had to dig deep in the final 10 minutes. But their composure, discipline, and team spirit ensured they saw out the game with the 5-1 scoreline intact.

Player of the Match

⭐ Dawn – For her positioning, creativity, and outstanding link-up play.

⭐ Naomi & Sam – Both stepping up in goal, despite it not being their usual position, and making crucial saves to support the team.

Another fantastic performance from Aston, showcasing teamwork, adaptability, and sheer quality.

On to the next! 💪⚽🔥
