East Tytherley Cricket Club are champions again!

Following the last two rounds of fixtures in Hampshire League 4, East Tytherley were confirmed as champions, meaning they have achieved back-to-back promotions since restarting Saturday cricket and can now look forward to Hampshire League 3 Cricket next season.

The league title was decided with a tight game away at second place Amport on the 23rd August which Tytherley won by just 10 runs. Hugh Gray’s 56 was the stand-out contribution of another ‘team performance’ by the batting line-up which was followed-up by superb work from the bowling unit. Joe Cook with 3-22 was the pick of the bowlers.

On the 30th August Tytherley travelled to Winterbourne CC for the final fixture of the season but the match was abandoned as heavy rain swept across the county. The weather was so severe, the team were unwilling to pose for a celebratory team photo through fear of being were swept away by the monsoon.

Winning the league has capped-off an excellent season following their 4th place finish in the Border ‘Premier’ League’ (evening cricket) where they routinely play against teams with significantly greater playing and financial resources.

Huge thanks must go to all those involved in supporting and running the club. If you’re interested in playing Tuesday evening cricket or Saturday afternoon cricket at a beautiful ground with a club going from strength to strength, please send a message to this account.

We also have sponsorship opportunities available for small, local businesses for the 2026 season.

Tytherley got back to winning ways on Saturday with a hard fought victory over Michelmersh and Timsbury.

Batting first on a wicket that kept everyone interested, brave openers Forward (55) and Allen (37) saw off the new ball and gave Tytherley a 120-run platform for the middle order to exploit. Contributions from Wade (19), Edwards (22) and Evans (17) kept the momentum going before Hugh Gray (42*) welcomed M&Ts to his ‘gun show’ with a dynamic display of hitting which got Tytherley up to 259-6 at tea.

All season Tytherley have removed the opposition opening batsmen early and Saturday was no different. Mike Peace (1-24) was the new ball partner for Charlie Evans (2-27) this week and Tytherley had soon removed the M&Ts top order leaving them 3 down with just 23 runs on the board.

M&Ts third wicket pair weren’t so obliging and built a strong 100 run partnership to get M&Ts back into the game, picking up regular boundaries on all sides of the ground. Enforcer Alex Drake (2-39) was brought on to the stem the tide and brought audible gasps from the banks of spectators as he narrowly missed the batters outside edge, time and again. Eventually his luck changed and Tytherley started taking catches again to wrestle the initiative back. With the game set for a tight finish, veteran ‘pace-off bowlers’ Julian Neagle (2-49) and Will Edwards (1-50) showed guile and experience to stop the M&T batsmen hitting boundaries; the game came to a close with M&Ts still 31 runs short and 8 wickets down.

Tytherley look forward to their final home game of the season on Saturday 16th August against Longparish, starting at 1pm.

Tytherley suffered their first Hampshire League defeat in over ten years against local rivals Romsey on Saturday.

Tytherley batted first with trusted openers Charles Forward and Mark Allen building a predictably strong platform with 122 runs on the board before Allen fell for 48. Forward was joined by Hugh Gray who added a belligerent 22 and then Matt Metcalfe (57*) who steered the innings up to 290 at the break. Forward carried his bat and a number of injuries through the innings, ending unbeaten on 112.

With a depleted bowling attack and a rock-hard outfield, Tytherley needed to be at their best to defend the total. Welcoming back left arm seamer Ben Walker after a lengthy injury lay off, Tytherley soon had the Romsey opening batsmen back in the Pavilion but that was a false dawn as the Romsey middle order started enjoying themselves, picking up regular boundaries against the Tytherley spinners. 290 started to look a little light as Romsey batsmen got themselves ahead of the run rate but continued to lose wickets with regularity.

Tytherley weren’t prepared to give up their unbeaten record without a fight and wicket keeper Allen answered the call to bowl, picking up the critical wickets of Morris (90) and Gifford (47) leaving Romsey 8 wickets down but with 20 runs still required. As the tension started to bite, It was Romsey who held their nerve to claim the victory with Lenton guiding his side home, hitting a 6 to win the game finishing unbeaten on 31.

Tytherley are looking forward to another local derby this Saturday at Michelmersh and Timsbury.

East Tytherley secured another maximum points win against South Wi******er on Saturday.

South Winch won the toss and put Tyherley in to bat under grey skies and an unpredictable looking weather forecast. The rain however, held off throughout and Tytherley, led by skipper Charles Forward made steady progress with Mark Allen (30) Adam Foord (27) and Matt Metcalfe (50) all forging successful partnerships with skipper Forward who was eventually dismissed in the latter stages of the innings for a hefty 139. A brief flurry of wickets of the middle order forced the reluctant Tytherley lower order to frantically reach for their pads and gloves. As it turns out, Tytherley had enough runs in the bank already.

For the second time this season, Tytherley took a wicket with the first ball of the opposition innings, this time Matt Metcalfe (5-14) doing the damage. Alongside new ball partner Charlie Evans (2-19), the South Wi******er top and middle order were dismissed in just a few overs leaving change bowlers Mike Peace (2-9) and Hugh Gray (0-11) the job of finishing off the game. South Wi******er were finally dismissed for 68 inside 21 overs, W.ides top scoring with 12.

East Tytherley won a high scoring match against league rivals Amport on Saturday by 27 runs.

Put into bat by Amport, Tytherley’s prolific openers got the home side off to a great start. Making the most of the lightening fast outfield, any breaches of the inner ring were rewarded with a boundary.

Mark Allen was the first to go, however, adjudged LBW just 4 short of his 50 with Charles Forward going soon after for 42. Amport’s spinners managed to steady the run flow for a while before Charlie Evans (45) and Matt Metcalfe (34) began to cut loose; ably followed by Alex Drake (28no).

Tytherley finished their 45 overs with a strong, but not insurmountable 260-6. Amport mopped their sweaty brows as they escaped the heat to the sanctuary of the pavilion.

After tea, Amport’s run chase couldn’t have got off to a worse start as Charlie Evans with the new ball forced Amport opener Barrett to play onto his stumps with the first ball of the innings. Amport were however, undeterred with the middle order batsmen a cut above most of Tytherley’s other opponents so far.

Hickman and Trez were picking up on anything loose from Tytherley’s bowlers and forcing some uncharacteristic errors in the fielding. Just as the game looked to be heading for a very tight finish, key wickets either side of the second drinks break for Alex Drake and Julian Neagle turned the tide in Tytherley’s favour. With the new batsmen now struggling to find the gaps in the field against the ‘pace-off’ bowling, the required run rate crept up towards 10. Tytherley held their nerve to see out the win with stingy Neagle the pick of the bowlers with 2-36 off 9.

This win keeps Tytherley at the top of the league and they look forward to welcoming Winterbourne CC next Saturday.
