From free golf for kids after 4pm when playing with a paying adult, to no dress code and a genuine commitment to creating a welcoming environment, we’re proud to be challenging some of the traditional barriers that have stopped people from getting involved in the game.

Whalebone Golf Club was created from a belief that golf should feel open, welcoming and relevant to modern communities - particularly younger audiences and people who may previously have felt excluded from the sport.

The rebrand to Whalebone Golf Club reflects a wider shift away from traditional barriers towards a more inclusive, community-led experience.

The thinking behind our new “Club Code” was simple: remove the friction that stops people from trying golf in the first place. This includes everything from dress codes and perceived etiquette barriers to affordability and making the environment feel social rather than intimidating.

The club wanted to create a place where someone could come for their first-ever swing, play casually with friends, practice a game they love seriously, or bring their family - all without feeling judged or out of place.

The philosophy became: “Play as you are.”

George Lings, PGA Golf Professional and head of Coaching at Whalebone Golf Club says: “Kids and beginners don’t fall in love with golf because someone lectures them on etiquette on day one - they fall in love with it because they have fun. Our whole approach is about making people feel relaxed, welcome and excited to come back. If someone leaves smiling and wanting another go, that’s a win for us.”

If you’ve ever felt intimated by traditional golf clubs or golf culture, you are welcome here any time.

Whalebone is 18 holes of proper inland links golf — 4,293 yards, par 64, USGA-spec fairways that play fast and true whatever the season. Designed by Bruce Weller, it’s a course with real character: a 16th hole that’ll make your palms sweat (water left, bunker right, nowhere to hide) and an 18th that sends you home with either a fist pump or a story.

You can get round it quickly and under two hours if you’re sharp. Come as you are, dress as you please and after 4pm, children play for free — which means the only thing stopping you bringing the whole family is whether you trust your short game in front of a tough crowd.

You don’t need to be a golfer to feel like you belong here. You just need to show up.

Play as you are.
