What is good posture? If you only think about your body from an aesthetic stand point, a good posture will give your overall figure a more flattering look, this is one of the bi-product of having a good posture.
From a wellbeing point of you what does this really means? And how do we have a good posture?
When a body has correct posture, it means that the least strain is placed on the supporting muscles and ligaments. Proper posture results in keeping the bones and joints in the correct alignment, so that the muscles are used effectively as nature had designed them to. Bad posture results in back pain and injury.
Now I hear you say, “how do I achieve good posture?”
The body is made of 2 types of muscles: the stabilizers and mobilizers, as their name suggest the first category stabilizes the joints and the second category is responsible for movement. The stabilizers lie deep inside your body (we also call them core muscles) and tend to become weak over time (because of our sedentary life style).
Pilates exercises focus particularly on strengthening the core muscles. Once your core muscles get strong, they are able to support your spine correctly and reduce the weight on your joints, this will reduce back pain and injury risk. Next, we work on mobility and flexibility, this will help your muscles being used as they were designed to. After a few classes you will already feel the benefits.
