BARCH RICHMOND PADDLE CLUB 🌊🏄‍♂️ get tagging someone you think should know about this!!!

One of our favourite things we’ve started this summer.

Every month we’re teaming up with Nigel from and to host a relaxed evening on the Thames, followed by drinks at Tide Tables afterwards. 🍻

Last month over 20 people joined us and we’ve had loads of messages from people who aren’t BARCH members wanting to come along. We love that. If you fancy trying something different, you’re welcome to join!!

In this video, Nigel explains exactly what happens and what to expect.

✅ Beginner and experienced groups
✅ All equipment provided (£25) or £15 with your own board
✅ Buoyancy aids provided if needed
✅ A BARCH coach at every session
✅ Drinks afterwards
✅ No experience needed

Upcoming dates and which BARCH coaches will be joining 🫶🏻:

• 24 June - & .mnt
• 23 July –
• 27 August –
• 24 September –

Start time: 18:30 / 19:00 depending on conditions.

Huge thanks to Nigel and Paddle Richmond for hosting these. It’s been brilliant seeing so many people connect away from the gym.

To book, simply hit the link in our bio. If the weather is awful, we’ll postpone it, we want it to be a genuinely great experience for everyone.

See you on the river. 🌊

Test Week is here at BARCH 💪

Coach Holly and Clare getting after it this week 💪🏼💅🏼

Every three months we retest some key lifts and benchmarks. Not because testing is the be all and end all, but because it’s one of many ways to see if what you’re doing is working.

It’s been brilliant to see members excited with an extra emphasis to beat their scores from the start of the block.

And if you don’t fancy testing? No problem. There’s never any pressure. Training consistently, feeling better, moving well and enjoying the process matter far more than any number on a barbell.

But it is pretty cool seeing people get stronger!!

We’re just happy that strength training is finally getting the attention it deserves. More people are understanding that getting stronger isn’t just for professional rugby players and people chasing PBs! It’s one of the best things you can do for your health and longevity.

Seeing members excited to train, supporting each other and celebrating progress never gets old.

That’s what BARCH is all about. ❤️

Some people just get it. And these 2 do ❤️

Cathy and Page moved over from the States 4ish years ago and have become a huge part of BARCH. If you’ve been here any length of time, you’ll know exactly who they are.

They support each other, support everyone around them, turn up with a smile, work hard, and never make it about themselves.

They’ve just finished another 12 week training block and, somehow, they’re still getting stronger and keeping the youngsters honest! Page is still flying around the gym and looking to be in the PGA tour next summer, and Cathy is still getting ridiculously strong and beating the youngsters 💪🏼

The thing we admire most isn’t any particular PB or achievement though.

It’s their consistency.

Three or four sessions a week. Week after week. Month after month. Year after year.

No magic programme. No shortcuts. No 30-day transformation. Just showing up and doing the work.

That’s why they move well. That’s why they’re strong. That’s why they look incredible. That’s why fitness is simply part of who they are.

They’ve cracked the code that so many people spend years searching for. Turn up. Be consistent. Repeat.

BARCH will always be home for these two legends, and we’re very lucky to have them.

❤️💙

📸 Credit to My Richmond for spotting this and to Michael Bishop for the brilliant photos.

🎨 We’ve somehow managed to get hold of the early winner of Landscape Artist of the Year before it airs…

Swipe to see the masterpiece that apparently blew the judges away!

We’re not saying there was any bias involved, but if your painting includes dumbbells and skiergs, it’s hard to ignore.

Congratulations to the artist. A worthy winner. 🏆

250 SESSIONS UP FOR CAITLIN!!! Caitlin Limmer

If this photo looks intimidating because she’s stood next to three of the 6am lads, don’t worry. They’re all big softies… and unless you’re in the 6am class, you’ll probably never see them anyway 😂

The real story here is Caitlin.

From day one she’s brought infectious energy to every session. She’s someone who lifts up the people around her, gets stuck into the work, and always turns up with a smile.

She’s also got noticeably stronger. We know everyone trains for different reasons, but it’s been brilliant to see the impact consistent strength training has had on Caitlin, both physically and mentally.

250 sessions is a huge achievement and we’re lucky to have her as part of the BARCH community.

Well done, Caitlin ❤️

There is a huge amount of noise in the fitness industry right now. Zone 2, Hyrox, strength training, running, VO2 max, fat loss, longevity. It can feel impossible to know what actually matters.

The research is pretty clear though. Strength training is associated with lower mortality risk, better bone density, improved muscle mass and maintaining independence as we age. Cardiovascular fitness is equally important. In fact, low cardiorespiratory fitness has been shown to be a stronger predictor of all-cause mortality than many traditional risk factors, including high blood pressure and cholesterol. Put simply: if your goal is to live longer and live better, you need both.

That’s one of the reasons we run over 80 sessions every week at BARCH. We know people have busy lives, families, work commitments and different preferences. Some people love lifting weights. Some people enjoy getting sweaty. Most enjoy one more than the other. Our job is to make both accessible so you can build strength, improve fitness and train in a way that’s sustainable for years, not weeks.

Over a 100 people socialising and moving for free every Wednesday? Yes please. BIG TURNOUT! 😤😤😤😤 meet every Wednesday 7pm - they say nothing in life is free, this literally is! We’re not saying being around people and outdoors will solve all problems, but it’s very rare anybody leaves a Wednesday night feeling down - social connection is huge and it’s why it’s one of our pillars at barch

Thank you as always
