"Do I need to have a diagnosis to have coaching?"
This is the question I get asked the most!
A phrase I picked up around this is "Pills don't give skills!" although that applies more to "Is there any point in coaching once I'm diagnosed and on medication?"
💡 You do not need a diagnosis to have coaching
I'm a trained coach, with further training and lived experience of ADHD (I've even coached a few neurotypical people 😲)
💡 Coaching is helpful any time:
- realising you may have ADHD and seeking assessment is a huge thing to navigate
- being diagnosed and deciding whether to try medication and navigate that process is huge
- even if medication works for you, you still have ADHD. The picture shows my lovely rainbow timer that makes time visual for me. Halfway through a session this morning I realised I hadn't put it on 🤦🏻♀️ but I wouldn't have it if I hadn't been coached in organisation and time awareness!
- coaching helps you understand your own brain better and work with it, blocking out all the "Just do this..." "Why don't you try this..." you've heard your whole life, and the negative self-talk ❤️
