First League Game of the Season

We kicked off against Llandrindod on a cool Wednesday night, with a top-class green from David “Frankie” Price 👏

Great effort from all rinks skipped by Dai Davies, Neal Smith, Bennett Davies and Neil Rees, with most games going right down to the last end 🔥

Big shoutout to Neil Rees, Dai “Cedy” Rees, Steve Hearn and Frankie Price who secured our only winning rink with some superb bowls 💪

Llandrindod took the overall win on the night (12–2) 60 shots to 55 shots – congrats to Kev and the team and thanks for a great game 👏

Thanks also to the The Eagles Inn for the post-match hospitality, very much appreciated 🍻

After a lot of discussions over the winter, we’ve decided it’s time to move with the times…

From this season, Rhayader Bowling Club will be introducing:

🎳 Glow in the dark evening bowls
🎡 Moving obstacles on selected rinks
🎶 Music nights during matches
💨 “Power play” ends where bowls can be re-thrown

We’re calling it “Extreme Bowls” and we think it’s exactly what the sport has been missing.

Traditionalists, don’t worry… whites are still encouraged (they’ll look great under the lights).

First session kicks off this weekend. Spectators welcome.

Rhayader Bowling Club is saddened to hear of the passing of former member Ralph Oakley, who celebrated his 90th birthday only a few weeks ago.

Ralph was one of the early members of Rhayader Bowling Club and played an important role in the club’s history.

He was also part of the Mid Wales team that won the County Championship in 1989 the last time Mid Wales lifted the title.

Ralph’s contribution to bowling in Rhayader and across Mid Wales will always be remembered, and he will be fondly remembered by those who had the pleasure of playing alongside him.

Our thoughts are with Ralph’s family and friends at this sad time.

We were very saddened to hear of the passing of Madge Holliday, a member of Builth Wells Bowling Club , who previously lived in Rhayader and was one of the original lady bowlers at our club.

Madge also represented Mid Wales at county level and will be remembered as a kind, warm and much-respected member of the bowling community.

Our sincere condolences go to her brother Haydn, her family and friends at this difficult time.

Rest in peace, Madge.

As 2025 draws to a close, we’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported our club this year our players, volunteers, supporters, fantastic sponsors, and the many fellow clubs we’ve shared the green with throughout the season.

Your support, sportsmanship and friendship mean everything and help keep the spirit of the game alive in our community.

Standing with Watsons Family Butchers

We were devastated to hear about the break-in at Watsons Family Butchers, one of our proud 2025 sponsors and a much-loved part of the Rhayader community.

Jason and Lauren have shown incredible support for our club, and now it’s our turn to stand behind them. We can’t imagine how hard this must be after such a tough year, please know that the whole club and community are with you.

If anyone saw anything unusual between 12pm Sunday 16th November and 8am Monday 17th November, please contact them directly.
