The Flipper Club Swim School We welcome children aged 18 months through to adults.

We have a range of courses to suit all ages and abilities, from Parent & Child lessons through to children’s Learn to Swim classes, Youth Club Sessions, and Adult swimming lessons.

I’m not going to lie, I was pretty nervous getting up and speaking today but I couldn’t have a warmer welcome from the awesome Reigate crowd. Hopefully people went away knowing a little more about Channel Swimming and the adventures that learning to swim can lead you to!

Welcome back to swim school and the Autumn term! We are swimming again from Thursday 3rd September through to 17th / 19th December. All our term dates are on the website: flipperclub.co.uk/term-dates including any exclusion dates and the half term. This year the October half term will be 2 weeks: 19th October-1st November and we will be holding a crash course during the break!

On 28th August 2023, Amanda successfully completed her English Channel solo - swimming to France! 3 years ago today. She started at 7.32am and finished in the dark after 15hours and 9mins of swimming constant front crawl - only stopping to be thrown a bottle on a dog lead to feed liquid carbs (oh and custard cream biscuits!).

There were jellyfish, seabirds and waves but also sunsets, smiles and support - from her crew (pictured) and the many people that had supported along the way in training, preparation and mentoring.

This is a solo swim that takes a team of people to be successful, she’ll be forever grateful.
💙
Her crew consisted of swim teacher Daphne, Flipper Club founder Christine and Amanda’s husband Paul. Her 3 children were cheering on throughout the day with the grandparents!

Thankfully it was still in the summer holidays as Amanda’s arm didn’t work that well straight after so swim teaching would’ve been tricky!!

Amanda now uses her experience and open water coaching qualification to mentor other swimmers through their channel swimming and open water journeys - coaching and crewing- helping others achieve their dreams!

Since 2020 Amanda has been running the swim school, having taken over from Christine who founded the club in 1991.

Amanda is a swimming enthusiast (to say the least!) and has taken her love for the water outdoors - swimming channels, rivers and lakes in events, solo and relay crossings. Her biggest swim to date in the English Channel in 2023 which she completed in 15hrs 9mins.

Amanda teaches all age groups and abilities at The Flipper Club and literally loves everything about teaching, open water coaching and swimming!

An opportunity to learn about Channel Swimming! Come and ask Amanda lots of questions about her solo English Channel swim channel swim.

Like many of The Flipper Club teachers, Amanda has taken part in many open water swimming events as well as successfully completing a number of ‘big’ swims.
💦
She learned from the best - Christine Addison - who founded the swim school in 1991 and has swum most of the well known big swims including The English Channel, Gibraltar Strait, Jersey to France and more.
💦
Just as Christine has been an inspiration and mentor to Amanda, Amanda also wants to pay it forward and help others into the open water swimming world. Inspiring others is the greatest gift.
