🗣 Words with Coach after today's defeat

On the result:
"I think the result in terms of North Solihull getting through to the next round is fair. I don't think the scoreline is a true reflection of the difference between the two teams"

On the performance:
"Things to improve on for sure but also a lot of positives again. I know people will look at the scoreline and say, how can there be positives?, but if you watched the game you'd have seen for large parts we were the better team. We domianted the ball, created plenty of chances in the final third but just didn't get the final ball right enough and when we did our finishing let us down. Overall I think we played well on the ball but off the ball we were too far off it for large spells"

On the defensive problems:
"We're a front foot team so we will always give chances away especially on transitions but at the moment we aren't doing the defensive basics well enough all over the pitch. The attack are challenging for loose balls well enough or pressurising the defenders, the midfield aren't protecting the back 4 and are losing to many duals and the back 4 aren't working as a unit which is allowing the attackers far too much space especially inside the penalty area. All of this is normal with the amount of new partnerships and players we have, its normal and will improve over time"

On the praise from referees & opponents:
"Praise for the way we play is always nice to hear and for numerous people to bring up how successful we would be against girls sides is a credit to the players and the work we're doing here"

On the bigger picture:
"Its easy to look at results and determine whether you're being successful or not but there's a bigger picture here. Firstly, all our girls are already winners for accepting this challenge this season, for pushing themselves, for wanting to improve and being willing to enter an environment which is designed for them to fail. I believe we are helping these girls get better, teaching them to deal with adversity, improving them as players and people and hopefully installing that lifelong love for the game. Thats bigger than any result on the pitch and if we continue to do those things, I can accept if we lose the game every week because we will win in life long term"

Match Report ⚽️

The girls arrived at our home looking to kick start our season against an opponent we know well from last season. We were hoping to build on the positives of last week but our plans were undone within the first 10mins.

North Solihull turned up determined and with a point to prove after 2 defeats last season. They started at lightning pace and scored 3 very good goals within the opening 10mins. We were shellshocked and knew getting through to the next round now would be a tough ask. We did finally settle down, play our football and created some chances but our final ball was severely lacking today. We did limit Solihull to few chances to keep the scoreline possible going into HT.

2nd half we wanted a fast start but unfortunately Solihull hit us on very quick counter attacks twice to take the game away from us. One thing we don't do is give up and our positive play was finally rewarded when some brilliant defensive work from Darcey won possession, she found Eden down the wing who played square to Issy who rolled the defender to drive at goal, she attracted the attention of the 2nd defender before releasing a perfectly timed square pass to Tash who raced through 1v1 and made no mistake. 1-5. This woke us up and such is our reputation Solihull started to panic. The next 10mins were crucial to the result. We dominated and created 3 or 4 really good chances but just couldn't take them. If we could have got to within 2 goals we might just have had enough to get a result. Unfortunately Solihull once again scored two quick counter attacks through their two talisman who's finishing today was brilliant to put a gloss on the scoreline which isnt a true reflection of the contest. FT 1-7.

North Solihull fully deserved the win today without question but the scoreline should have been closer. Lessons to learn both defensively and offensively for us and a good lesson in how moments decide football matches.

Very proud of the girls attitude and application throughout and for the 2nd week running the referee has complimented our style of play and comments have been made of how well we would do in a girls league.

Cup Campaign Begins! 🏆

This Sunday we face North Solihull in the 1st round of the CWYFL U14 Open Cup. Both teams suffered narrow defeats on opening weekend so are looking to kick start their campaigns in what should be an excellent contest 💪🏻⚽️❤️🐺🤍
