Stockport Metro JFL Inclusive Youth Football League | U7 - U18 | Mixed league - male, female & mixed teams welcome | All abilities welcome | Proudly GRASSROOTS

The Stockport Metropolitan Junior Football League was founded in 1981 after the demise of the South Stockport Junior Football League. The architect behind the SMJFL was Fred Cane and he remains today as he started in 1981 as league President. The other "Founding Fathers" were Terry Wellerman, George Gravell and Richard Gregg. Richard, like Fred remains in the same role as he started as Chairman. T

he clubs that the "Founding Fathers" represented back in 1981 were Bramhall, Devonshire, Norbury Athletic and Norbury Moor Rangers. With the exception of Devonshire, the other clubs are still playing within the league today. The league's first season back in 1982/83 saw 4 divisions that represented U10s, U11s, U12s and U13s. The winners of these initial leagues were:

U10 Norbury Athletic
U11 Poynton / Norbury Moor Rangers
U12 Norbury Moor Rangers
U13 Erwood Rovers

Over the years the league has welcomed many additions to their founding numbers with the 2003/04 season seeing the divisions increase to range from U9s through to U17s. Today we have divisions that start with our youngest members at U7s through to our U17/18s players, providing football for hundreds of teams and players. In addition to our league and cup fixtures at every age group, the SMJFL competes in Inter League competitions sending teams abroad to represent the league at the relevant age groups.
