Marske United U21’s Brand new Marske United U21 team, playing in the DURHAM COUNTY U-21 MIDWEEK LEAGUE

13/06/2026

Marske U-21’s will be returning for preseason training this coming Thursday 18th June 8-9pm.

We’ve been working hard behind the scenes during the off season by securing the majority of the playing squad from last season and adding more depth and quality as we welcome a number of players from last seasons Redcar Athletic U-21 squad and lasts seasons Marske U-16’s.

In addition to this we have strengthened our coaching staff by welcoming Danny Todd to the management team. Danny was at the helm of Redcar U-21’s last season and thanks to his knowledge of the game and coaching ability they were often a thorn in our side with our record against each other ending even at 1 win, 1 loss and 1 draw each. I think we just edged them on goals scored 😉. It’s great to get Danny onboard and we will be better for it.

Dylan Brown has also joined the team as player coach, he has a wealth of experience having played in and around the area in open age football.

Kai Surtees returns for another season as coach with us having been alongside me in the dugout this season.

We also welcome Joe Daniel to the team as our physio for the season.

If there are any 16+ players looking for a pathway to the men’s game and ultimately to Northern league football please drop me a note.

We will have a brand new kit next season and are looking for sponsors for the team so any interested parties please message me.

Last nights home encounter between Marske Utd U-21’s and i2i Town U-21’s ended all square at 1-1.

Marske started fast and took a deserved lead on 10 minutes thanks to a well executed penalty by Alfie Edwards.

Marske had chances to extend their lead but they were unable to convert their chances. On 25 minutes i2i Town were awarded a very dubious penalty and although Frankie Sharples got a strong hand to the penalty he was unable to keep it out.

The half ended at 1-1 with Marske looking the stronger of the two sides.

The second half was similar to the first with both teams playing with high intensity and trying to use the irregular bounce of the pitch to their advantage.

i2i Town upped the anti and tried to press for the winner but Marske Utd defensive 4 of Will Robinson, Dylan Coyne, George Arundell and keeper Frankie Sharples were equal to everything that was thrown at them.

The defence were well protected by the fine work of James Pomfret, Harvie Bower and Liam Coleman who was back to his best.

i2i had the clearest chance late on to win the tie but their effort was well wide and the game finished 1-1.

It’s difficult to name individuals after last nights game as the whole squad put in a solid shift and the consistency of the intensity needed to compete against sides like i2i was there again last night as it was the week before against Park View and bodes well for the future.

As stated the back 4 of Frankie Sharples, Dylan Coyne, George Arundell and Will Robinson looked in control last night and limited the number of clear cut chances against a very capable i2i attack and game plan. Up front Alfie Edwards and Tyler Crosby showed power and aggression all evening and the midfield of James Pomfret, Harvie Bower, Liam Coleman, Ollie Mowbray and Jake Cowen worked tirelessly.

MOTM was very close with a number in contention, Dylan Coyne was once again at the top of his game giving very little away at the back and on the other side of the defence George Arundell was as strong as always, between the 2 of them they kept i2i’s best player #7 at bay. Will Robinson put in another captains performance in the middle of the back 3 as he made all the right decisions in limiting i2i’s clear cut chances. MOTM this week goes to Liam Coleman who was back to his best as he was everywhere in the middle of the pitch defensively and in attack.

Thanks to everyone again who came down to watch the game.

Next week we travel to face Swalwell in our final game of the season.

A tight and exciting game of football was played out at The John Keegan Stadium last night between Marske Utd U-21’s and Park View Academy U-21’s with the game ending tied at 1-1.

Marske took the lead on 20 minutes with Jake Cowen heading home at the far post from a pin point cross from Robbie Cuthbert.

Marske had two good opportunities that they failed to convert before they were punished with Park View levelling on 32 minutes with a good finish from the edge of the box.

Possession was pretty even throughout the game with perhaps Marske just edging the encounter on better chances created but on reflection a draw was probably a fair result.

A number of strong performances from within the Marske ranks last night with Robbie Cuthbert and James Pomfret putting a hard shift in in the middle of the park and the ever impressive Tom Lowe causing problems up front.

At the back Dylan Coyne was solid and secure, not putting a foot wrong all night and alongside him Will Robinson in his 2nd game back from a 6 week injury layoff was calm and commanding alongside him controlling the back line and just edged the others for the man of the match award.

Strong shout out to Frankie Sharples who was playing his 2nd game back after dislocating his shoulder back in November against Redcar, he made all the right decisions last night and swept up well on the occasions Park View threatened to get in behind the back line.

Thanks to everyone who came down to support.

We will be home again next week for our last home game of the season as we take on 2nd placed i2i U-21’s.

We are still in the race for a 2nd placed finish which would be a fantastic result for our 1st season together but to do this we must beat i2i which is no easy task.

Hopefully we will see more of you down for the game next week, free entry again.
