We’re so happy with how preparations are going at Sanctuary Strikers! The lads are putting in the hard work and the energy is 🔥.

The season kicks off on 7th September, and we’re aiming to start strong 💪. We’ll always show respect to every team we face, but make no mistake — the competition is on! 🏆

We’re excited to kick off a new season and proud to share that some of our players from previous years have settled well in Berkshire and moved on to other local clubs 👏🏾—with two now joining football academies! 🔥

We’ve also welcomed some new faces and are looking forward to building something special together. ❤️

🙏🏾 As always, we kindly ask for your support. We’re in need of football boots for our new players and would greatly appreciate any financial donations to help keep the team going.

⚽ Boots Needed for a Brighter Future 👟

Sanctuary Strikers FC is calling on our amazing community for support ❤️

We’ve welcomed some incredible new players to the team – asylum seekers who are passionate about football but currently unable to work while waiting on their status. Many of them are without basic gear, especially football boots, which are the most urgently needed.

If you have any spare boots – new or gently used – please consider donating them. We're also gratefully accepting training kits, socks, shin pads, and any other football gear you might have lying around.

Together, we can make a real difference and help these players feel part of something special 💪⚽

What a lovely day! 🌟

Thanks to the incredible support from the University of Reading , Berks & Bucks FA and the Refugee Support Group 💚 , we delivered yet another super well‑attended 2025 Reading Community Cup football tournament. A massive thank you to every team that took part—your presence alone was a win. Together, we built community cohesion through the beautiful game of football. A massive thank you to The Mayor of Reading Dr Alice Mpofu-Coles who came through to officiate the event.

Reading Community Cup Returns to Celebrate Refugee Week with Unity, Football, and Community Spirit
– Sanctuary Strikers FC, in proud collaboration with Berks & Bucks FA and University of Reading , is excited to announce the return of the Reading Community Cup, a vibrant football tournament celebrating Refugee Week. This year’s tournament will take place on Saturday 14th June at Reading University and promises to be the biggest and most inclusive yet.
Now an eagerly anticipated annual fixture, the Reading Community Cup brings together players, supporters, and communities to celebrate diversity, build lasting relationships, and offer a warm welcome to refugees and asylum seekers. With 12 teams from across Reading already signed up, the tournament showcases not only footballing talent but also the power of sport to connect people beyond borders.
This year’s event is generously sponsored by Kitlocker, Reading University, and Ipro, whose support helps keep the tournament free and open to all. Spectators, families, and community members are encouraged to come along, bring their energy, and enjoy a day filled with football, community spirit, and cultural exchange.
“We’ve seen how football can be a lifeline – it helps people feel seen, supported, and connected,” said a representative from Sanctuary Strikers. “The Reading Community Cup isn’t just a tournament – it’s a message that everyone belongs.”
Traditionally featuring men’s teams, the organisers are now calling for women’s teams to get involved. The goal is to create an even more inclusive space that welcomes everyone, regardless of background or gender.
