I thought I would impose my thoughts and write a personal note.
Over the years of teaching I have seen many students come and go. Many have left a lasting impression, and most have made the journey as a teacher that bit brighter. I have seen some students struggle with the Art and others, sadly, struggle with life and some tragically lose that struggle.
Please read with kindness tenderness and compassion. It is not an ‘I know better’ it is a reflection, a prayer if you like….
Another year! Wow we made it! We passed ¼ of a century.
Time humbles everything in the universe.
Look back at the moments that have shaped you.
Appreciate the growth and lessons learnt, despite pain that inevitably pops its head up for attention…
Try to let go and move on from the sadness of loss, hurt, worry, and feelings of being stuck in a loop you struggle to get out of.
If you feel stuck, allow others pull you out! We all need support from time to time, it is not weak to ask for help.
Today we have an ‘arbitrary’ new year that we can use to draw a line in the sand. We can use the opportunity to embrace change, challenges, and the people who remain in our lives.
I know some of you have had an horrendous 2024, and have faced awful challenges. I hope you continue to find the strength to fight on and humble us with your amazing spirit.
Be present for others, even when you yourself feel worthless. Sometimes we can’t see how much we are valued, needed and loved.
You are as important and as special as any person on this planet, because you are the only you, quirks and all….
Let’s use the idea of Wing Chun’s Siu Nim Tao to make simple small steps to grow, not just in the Art but also how we share time with others and how we look within ourselves.
Look after yourself. It is not selfish. You will be better able to look after those who need you if you remain well.
I wish all of you a better 2025 and look forward to the challenge of helping you grow in the Art.
It may not be obvious…
I do enjoy sharing the Art, that small part of your life called Wing Chun Kuen.
Thank you for letting me do this WITH YOU, and for making my personal journey more enjoyable.
Happy New Year
Take care
James Sinclair
