Rossendale Valley Falcons 1–1 Rochdale FC
It was fantastic to see the girls finally back playing football after the summer break, and you wouldn’t have believed they had been away from the pitch for so long!
From the first whistle to the last, the girls were absolutely fantastic. The passing and movement was excellent, with the team playing with great speed, intensity and purpose.
Defensively, we looked really strong and worked brilliantly together. Our goalkeeper was commanding in her area, making some important decisions and showing great confidence coming off her line.
In attack, the girls caused plenty of problems, with players making intelligent runs in behind, while also doing a great job of holding the ball up and bringing others into play.
Our midfield worked incredibly hard throughout the game, battling for every ball and constantly looking to unlock the Rochdale defence with some excellent, pinpoint passes.
To come away with a 1–1 draw against a strong Rochdale side was a great result, but more importantly, the performance was full of positives.
You genuinely wouldn’t have believed that these girls hadn’t played a competitive game since the beginning of July. Every single player was fantastic today, and this feels like a really exciting start to the new season.
If we continue to play football with this attitude, work rate and togetherness, I’m sure we’re going to have a very successful season.
